*This paste consists of all the canon stories in my DGA setting, listed in chronological order. Explicit entries will be marked* "Year" refer to Anon's age at the time of that story. ***Vaccines*** Year 19 >It had been a long trip, even with you shelling out for a carriage. >Longer with four small kids, but you've gotten good at making that work. >However, countryside eventually gives way to farmland, then to ever denser cottages, letting you know you're there. >Soon, only dense buildings housing farmers, farm hands, and various agriculture related functions terminate at a gate, separating them from the interior city. >Stepping from your coach, your kids at your side and youngest in your arms, you approach. >The guards eye you suspiciously, but let you pass unhindered. >As you ascend the mountain, the quality of the buildings gets nicer and nicer, while the quality of the people does the opposite. >At least, you assume based on the looks you're getting becoming less curious and more disgusted and snobby. >The young satyrs cling to your pants leg as you walk, right until the moment you reach your destination. >"Dr. Hart's Clinic and Pharmacy" the sign reads. >Double checking the small print to ensure this is the place, you find "Hybrid Specialist" in the list of his specializations. >For whatever "specialist" counts for in this world. >A bell over the door chimes as you enter, prompting a young mare at the front desk to call you over. >"Hello, welcome to Dr. Hart's. Do you have an appointment?" "Yes ma'am." you confirm, pulling a slip from your coat. "I sent ahead for the doctor to prepare vaccinations for three." >The pony takes the slip, confirming the appointment, and the attached bank slip. >"Thank you sir. Please have a seat." >You comply, wrangling your kids into the seats beside you. >Time ticks by slowly as you wait, Lenora swaddled in your arms. >Ariana sits quietly save for the occasional sniffle and sob, fear and anxiety radiating off of her, likely in no small part due to the crowded room. >Eventually, another mare comes from the back and calls you into another waiting area. >This one, however, is empty save for yourselves, obviously intended as a place to leave kids while their siblings visit the doctor. >"If you're ready, Dr. Hart will see you now." the mare, a pink and white earth pony informs you. "I'll keep an eye on your other children while you're away." "Thank you miss..." you begin, drawing a blank. >"Nurse Redheart. I'm Dr. Hart's wife." "Thank you, nurse Redheart." you say, giving her small hoof a shake before nudging Ariana and the twins towards the play area before heading into the doctors office. >"Hello. You must be Mr. Mous." you're greeted as soon as you enter. "Dr. Hart." he states, offering his hand. >In front of you stand a kindly looking, older man, his hair tinged with the earliest touches of gray. >Offering your own hand in turn, you give him a firm shake. "Thank you for seeing me, doc." >"The pleasure's all mine. Please set the child on the table so I can examine her." >You do as he says, unswaddling the sleeping infant. >"My my, I knew I was expecting a manticore hybrid, but it's still curious to see her in person." he says to himself as he carefully examines her. >"I'm not in any risk of a sting if I handle her, am I?" "No." you inform him with a head shake. "I drain her venom every day. At least until she's old enough to know better." >"Mmmhmm. Do you have a sample with you I could have for study?" he asks as he looks her over. Paws, wings, tail, her newly sprouting teeth are all examined. >Pulling a small vial from your bag, you hand it over as he jots down several things in a thick journal before moving Lenora to a scale. >"So, have you noticed any irregularities with her health you think I should specifically know about?" "Nothing out of the ordinary, no." >"That's good." he states as he prepares a syringe. "Are you sure these vaccines are safe? We're not exactly on earth anymore." >"Hmm? Oh yes. As sure as you can ever be in medicine." he claims without sugar coating. "Equestria is a huge downgrade, sure, but the process is still the same. And hybrids tend to be disease resistant." "Why's that?" >"Diseases are typically evolved to infect one specific species, the simple status of hybrid renders them resistant if not immune to most microbial illnesses their parents can catch." >"I just target the few known to be capable of jumping that barrier. Now if you would, please hold her as you feel appropriate to prevent her from injuring me." >Taking the small girl in your arms, you gently hold her paws and tail still while Dr. Hart brings the needle to her arm. >Lenora squirms as the solution is injected, giving way to infant sobbing. >As her struggling dies down, you release her tail and from your bag, retrieve a small gourd filled with sand and pebbles. >A few shakes grabs her attention, her soft brown eyes following the woody husk as you move it, the sting of the needle already forgotten. >Her tiny hands dart out, seizing the simple toy and bringing it to her mouth as she works out the pain of teething on it. >With a laugh, you turn back to the doctor, who flashes you a small smile in turn. >"You may get the next one now. nurse Redheart will watch the baby in the meantime." >Stepping out, you carefully set your daughter in a provided crib seat next to a play pen, the nurse trotting dutifully to her side with a smile. "Ariana?" you call out, causing the goat satyr to look towards you expectantly. "Come on honey, it's your turn." >She whines softly, but quickly runs her way over. >Patting her head to comfort her, you head back into the office. >"Well looky here!" Dr. Hart says. "And who's this cute little girl?" >Ariana stays bashfully quiet, leaving you to speak for her. "This is Ariana, doc. She just needs a quick check up like her baby sister." you state, hoping to calm the Arimaspi. >"Well, I think we can handle that." he exclaims with exaggerated glee. "And how old are you, Ariana? Five? Six?" >The satyr raises a shaking claw, holding up two digits. >"Only two? You're really tall for two, aren't you? What has your dad been feeding you?" >"M...meat and fwuit..." she answers seriously. >"Well it's clearly working. Why don't you step onto the scale for me?" >"Same as before, Mr. Mous. Have you noticed any sorts of general health issues in your daughter before? Would you consider her size normal?" >At nearly 4 feet. Ariana stands more than twice the height of a normal girl her age. But given her mother, you don't find it odd. "Nothing, no. I don't know if you've ever seen an arimaspi, but I've seen them attack dragons to steal their hoards. They can reach amazing sizes." >He makes more notes in his journal with an interested hum before preparing a fresh syringe. >"Alright, Ariana. Can you stick out your arm for me?" >The satyr cries and refuses. >"Daddy! Don't let him! Scary!" she pleads. >Thinking for a moment, you pull the over sized toddler into a big hug, which she eagerly accepts. >Nodding to the doctor, he uses Ariana's distraction as she wails into your chest to sneak closer, needle ready. >Ariana gasps. >Looking back, she sees the emptied needle withdraw. >"All done. See, that wasn't so bad, was it?" >She stifles her cries with a small sniff as she shakes her head. "Good girl, sweetie. I'll take you out for a treat later since you were such a good little patient." you congratulate her, ruffling her hair. >"Why don't you go back and wait, I'll call your sisters in in a minute." >"Okay." the young satyr says, quickly heading back to the waiting room. >As the door clicks shut, Dr. Hart turns back to you. >"So, at the risk of sounding presumptuous, would it be alright if I asked a bit about your children's origins?" "Why?" you ask, somewhat taken aback. "Is it relevant?" >"Slightly. You might have noticed that there are very few humans around. And I'm the only person who could be called an expert on human hybrids around. I consider it my job to learn everything possible about these fascinating creatures for their benefit. That includes their origins, especially when dealing with new sub-types." "I'm guessing you got into this because you've got one yourself. Tell me your story, I'll feel a bit better about telling you mine." >"Fair enough. I used to be a general practitioner before I ended up here. When I saw the practically barbaric Renaissance level medicine, I decided to step in, with medicine and anything else I knew how to do, or how to at least guide the locals to innovate. That's where I met my wife. One thing led to another, and we were both shocked when our little Tonsils came along." >Nodding, you begin with a sigh. "I was still in my late teens when I turned up, and I just decided to explore. A land of magic and mystery, you know?" >"Heh, I can understand where you're coming from. Continue please." "So I end go around, exploring, having some fun with some more exotic ladies, thinking different species means no pregnancy risk." >"That seems to be a common theme in the stories many hybrid parents give me." he says with a nod." "So one day, Zarina, that's Ariana's mother tracks me down, and carrying a baby so tiny compared to her, and tells me it's mine." >"And are you still with her?" "No." you shake your head. "It's not that there's nothing there, but Ariana and I are too small to live safely among the arimaspi, and Zarina too large to live outside. We're just in different worlds." >You close your eyes, reminiscing. "Anyway, I decided then and there to settle down. She helped me build a cabin way out in a peaceful valley like I always wanted. Sweet girl. Had her stick around a bit longer while I retraced my steps. Found Kimmy and Mera. Their mother...mothers were, well, on the wrong side of the law. So they handed them over. That's about all there is to stay." >"Any regrets?" "Only the fear that I might have missed one. A man should be part of his kids lives." you state sadly. >You feel a hand on your shoulder as he offers a comforting smile. >"At least you're trying to do right by them." "Thanks." you respond, heading off to fetch the twins. >"Oh, by the way, you didn't tell me about Lenora's history." "I was bored and lonely, is all." you chuckle with a bit of shame. "I shouldn't be putting myself at risk like that." >In the waiting room, nurse Redheart is keeping your little cuties under control. >Lenora is sleeping, Ariana is mostly rubbing her arm, and Kimmy is raising some hell as usual. "Kimmy, Mera, come on. Your turn." you call out to them. >"NO!" Kimmy yells, to Mera's affirmation. "Girls, you have till three, or I'm dragging you in." you say threateningly. "One. Two.....Three!" >The chimera child resists, tearing across the room to escape you. >In the small space, however, it doesn't take long to catch them. >The duo squirms and struggles in your grip but can't break free, eventually giving up and opting to go slack, forcing you to haul them like dead weight. >Pulling them inside, the doctor greets them happily. >"Hello! You girls must be Kimmy and Mera. I'm Dr. Hart. You giving your dad a hard time?" >"No." Mera claims. "Hate doctors." her sister adds. >"Aww. That's not very nice of you. But I'll tell you what, if you'll just do this for me this once, you probably won't ever have to see me again." >"Promise?" your snake child asks. >"Promise." >"Fine, but no needles." the larger girl demands. >"Please step on the scale for me." >"Mmmhmm." he mutters, writing down their weight. "And how old are you two? >"Four!" they shout in unison. "They're three." You correct. >"Almost four!" "Three years, 7 months." you say with a faint chuckle. >"As always, Mr. Mous, any known medical conditions I should know of?" "Well, they're prone to minor infections, but I attribute this to mostly to wounds and sanitary concerns caused by Mera's tendency to bite her sister." >This prompts the two to begin bickering, but you ignore it to focus on you conversation. >"My, admittedly limited research tells me this is fairly normal for chimera, and should stop as they get older. I'd just recommend making sure to keep the wounds clean and bandaged." "As I've been doing." >Dr. Hart goes through the motions once more, examining the belligerent chimera, making the occasional note, and asking you for a sample of Mera's venom. >Soon, he gives you a hint to distract them so he can give them their shot. "See girls." you say enthusiastically, "We're already done. Give your dad a big ol' hug." >They lighten up, Kimmy throwing her paws around you as Mera wraps around your arm. >Dr. Hart approaches, syringe ready. >Unfortunately, one of the two notices him, and Mera attempts to uncoil for a strike. >You act fast enough to prevent this, grabbing Mera. >Sadly, you do so too low, and failing and other options, whips down to bite into your arm. >Groaning in pain, you're shocked when she manages to squeeze out a tiny trickle of venom. >Kimmy, thankfully, can do little but paw at your back, having had the presence of mind to trim her claws before you came. >"Are you alright? Do you need help?" the doctor asks frantically as the snake continues gnawing her smaller, serrated teeth into your flesh. "It's fine! Its only painful, not deadly." you inform, the venom burning like fire up to your shoulder. "Just do it." >He quickly presses the needle to Kimmy's shoulder, injecting the solution, before jumping back across the room. >The two quickly calm themselves, giving you both the stink eye as you release them. "See?" you chide, trying to lay on the guilt. "All that squirming, and I bet you barely noticed it compared to when you two fight each other." >The grumble, but they know a long talk is in their future as you usher them back into the waiting room. >Rolling up your sleeves, you examine the new wound added to your collection of bite, sting and claw scars. >It doesn't seem that bad, really. >"Well, that was an experience." Dr. Hart says, offering you a rag coated in antiseptic. "Are they always that...exciting?" "Nah. I think being in the city has them riled up. None of them are used to it." >He nods sadly. >"Afraid I have to ask you to stay in Canterlot for one more day to make sure they don't have a bad reaction. But next time you're in town, look me up. I'm always interested in expanding my knowledge of hybrids." "Will do, doc. You take care of yourself." you say with a handshake before stepping out the door. ***Frogs*** Year 22 "Anything?" you inquire. >The children shake their heads, much to your dismay. >"She's not here." "Alright you two, park yourselves on that couch and stay there. I'll be back as soon as I find your sisters." >"Yes sir." they say in unison, your fear bleeding into them. >Throwing on a long leather cloak with a lining of waxed wool, you take a second coat for your girls and you arm yourself in case you have to head into the woods. >As you open the door, the sound crashes into the room like a wave. >From the porch sides, you can see the water coming down in sheets as the wind kicks at the trees. >Walking the rough trod path, you start in the fields and hills immediately in front of the cabin. >While the normally tall, billowing grass is held helpfully flat under the force of the storm, the oppressive grayness limits your view. "KIMMY! MERA! GIRLS?" you shout. >Barely able to hear your own voice, you doubt they would either. >Sighing, you trudge onwards. - >You search for some time, circling every hill and mound. >Wandering along the side of a deeper crevice that fills into a creek every most storms, you spot something in the gloom ahead of you. >Rubbing the water from your eyes, you begin moving closer as the shape becomes more and more distinct. "KIMMY! MERA!" you shout through the wind, "WHAT ARE YOU TWO DOING OUT HERE?!" >Despite your shouting, your voice fails to cut through the weather. >Approaching, you see the two are sitting on the creek bank, focused intently on something. >They don't notice your presence, even as you get right behind them. >Suddenly, they yank and shout, pulling a something from the water. >"WE GOT THE BIG ONE!" Kimmy squeals, pulling a large bull frog from the net. >Finally, they notice you as they turn. >"Oh! Hello daddy!" Kimmy says with a big, innocent smile. "Look what we caught!" Mera beams as her sister holds out the the large frog in their tiny paws. "What are you two doing out here?" you say, dismissing the amphibian. >"Catching frogs." Mera states, motioning to a large mason jar at their side, filled with numerous smaller frogs. "So you two left the house in the middle of a storm without telling anyone to catch some pets?" >The children avert their eyes at your chiding. >"We're sorry..." "Look at you two, you're not even dressed for the weather. You're absolutely soaked. What if you got sick?" >"But... but the rain's warm." Mera tries to justify. >"It's been raining for days! We were bored!" Kimmy adds. >Sighing, you get down to their level as you hand them their jacket. "Girls. What if you'd gotten lost, or hurt, or fallen in the water? You had your sisters and me very scared. You don't sneak out like that. Especially not in bad weather." >"Are we in trouble?" "Yes." you bluntly state. "I'll decide how to punish you two later." >"Can we keep our frogs?" "Yeah, fine. Let's just get home." >Flashing a toothy grin, the chimera hops to their hooves, holding their biggest catch with pride. >"Can you carry the jar, pretty please?" >Wordlessly taking the jar in hand, you lead on. "Girls?" you begin about halfway back home. "You two didn't even punch a hole in the lid. How are these supposed to breath?" >As you jam you hunting knife into the lid, the sound of a sickly crunch hits your ears. >Looking back, you see them pulling the digestive tract from the frog, who's currently hanging limp with half its head bitten off. "Eugh. Well, even still, you'll want to keep them fresh." >"Yeah. We should have made some holes earlier." "Wish I could get you two to stop eating raw meat like this." >Shrugging their shoulders, Kimmy quickly scarfs down the large frog, chewing through the bones with loud indifference. >"Hey dad?" the small child asks as she finishes her meal. "Race ya!" "Hands are full!" you call out, hustling after the bolting satyr. >Unsurprisingly, you quickly fall behind. >Arriving significantly later than them, you can make out movement dancing through the windows, distorted by the water. >Throwing open the door, the sound of giggles mixed with bleats fills your ears. >Looking to the source, you see Kimmy and Ariana smash horns with a loud clack as they grip each others arms and push, jumping excitedly on their tippy hooves every time they part. >As Ariana's larger size begins to give her the edge, Kimmy pulls back before slamming her horns in with more force, making her sister wince. "Alright girls, careful with the rough housing." you order as you set the jar down on the table. >Ariana looks up to acknowledge you, giving Kimmy her opening. >Using the distraction, she strikes a dizzying blow that lets her overcome her younger sister's size and push her to the floor. >"Daddy!" Ariana whines. "Kimmy's cheating!" >"Sore loser!" Kimmy retorts, sticking out her tongue. >"Kinda cheating." Mera confirms. "Alright you three. I said not to get too rough, break it up. Now, where's Lenora?" you ask, noting the toddlers absence. >"She got tired while you were gone, so I put her to bed." "Okay. Kimmy, Mera? Go get cleaned up." you tell them as you begin pulling books from your shelves. "I'm gonna cook, and after we eat, it's time for school work." >Looking through the material you have, you decide working on their reading may help alleviate some of the cabin fever at least. "And girls?" you begin, turning to the twins specifically. "Later, I espect you two to give a nice apology to the whole house about what you did was bad, and why." >"Yes sir." the twins groan in unison. "Alright. You two can go now." ***Adoption*** Year 28 "Thank you, Dr. Heart. Tell the family I said hi." >Hart nod's to you, ushering you out. "I will. You take care." >Finally out of the doctor's office, the girls give a small cheer that it's over, eager to explore. >Unfortunately, seeing that the sun is setting, you decide it'd be better to turn in for the night and let the kids sightsee in the morning. >Making your way down the mountain, you pass the upper class quarters nearer to the peak and the middle class areas that comprises the middle. >All the while, the kids heads swivel at every sight, taking in the city a world away from their rural lives. >Finally, you reach the lower part of town, where stone gives way to wood. >Unlike the upper sectors, this part of town is still bustling with activity as the farmers and laborers who work the vast hills outside the gates go about their business. >Ignoring the odd stare, you set your sights on a nearby inn. >As you approach, a sudden rush of air hits your side when a brown blur shoots by. >Momentarily confused, you suddenly notice the lightness of your belt. "THIEF!" you shout as you break into a sprint. >"What?" one of the girls exclaims. >"Get them!" announces another. >"Chase!" barks Firginia. >And just like that, your wild children are following in close pursuit. >Despite your best efforts, the crook outpaces you, leaving you in the dust as they weave through market stalls and crowds. >As the thief hits an alleyway, your kids break off and run ahead, funneling into not only the path the thief took, but those around her. >Their hunting instinct now in full gear, they seek to leave their quarry hopelessly surrounded. >A twinge of worry overtakes you as you opt to go left, trailing little Firginia. >Pumping your legs harder, pushing yourself to the limit to keep up, not letting the young puppy get far from your sight. >By the time you catch up, your girls have already surrounded the criminal. >Before you can intervene, Lenora pounces, quickly straddling them, holding their arms down while menacing them with fang and stinger. >It's only now you notice that the failed thief seems to be a human or a satyr, and a rather small one at that, clothed in a dirty, ragged cloak. >"Where's the the coins, runt!?" Lenora bellows. >"O...on my belt" a young, feminine voice responds. >Looking down, Lenora releases her grasp to reach for the satchel. >The instant she does however, the little girl grabs a handful of dirt and slings it into the lioness' eyes. >Lenora yells as she releases the small girl to rub her eyes, who shoves her off with a powerful, inhuman kick springing forth from thick, powerful legs. >Though the pickpocket tries to bolt away again, she scarcely makes it 5 feet before Kimmy yanks her into the air, delivering a head butt to the smaller girls chest, forcing the air from her lungs in a ragged cough. >With no fight left in the stranger, Kimmy passes her to Ariana to keep hold of. >Seeing that Lenora has already wiped the dirt from her eyes and made it to her paws, you approach the young girl, retrieving your money and pulling pull back her hood. >Looking back at you is a tired little girl with with rabbit features, her white hair and pale skin stained with soot and grime. "Hey kid." you begin, "Why'd you try to rob me like that?" >You get no response, only a cold silence as she refuses to meet your gaze. >"He asked you a question, thief!" a furious Lenora shouts. "Lenora, please let me handle this, alright?" >"Y...yes sir." she complies with a grumble, her pride no doubt stinging worse than her eyes. "I'm not gonna hurt you, child. But I need you to talk to me." >The bunny takes a deep breath, letting the silence sit for a moment longer before she finally speaks up. >"Hungry" she mumbles, "I was hungry." >You can only smile and shake your head. It's exactly what you expected. "What's your name, kid?" >Again, no response as the rabbit avoids your gaze. "Nothing, huh? Okay, well mine's Anon. How would you feel if I at least got you something to eat for tonight?" >Her large ears perk up as her eyes finally snap to you. >Your girls seem as confused as her, but they don't resist when you tell the arimaspi to release her captive. "Here." you say, offering two coppers to the bunny, "As a sign of good faith." >She stares down the two coins, glinting in the dying sunlight like an obvious trap. >"Why?" "Because you look like you need someone to care." >Nervously, she takes the money from your hand as you stand. "But before we go, you need to apologize to my daughter, Lenora for hurting her." >Rubbing her hands, she turns to the manticore, now realizing just how much larger the other girl truly is. >"Sorry." "For?" you urge. >"For throwing dirt in your eyes. And for kicking you." She says nervously. >"Whatever." the manticore responds, "And you didn't actually hurt me." "Aren't you forgetting something?" you say, tapping your pouch. >"Sorry for, you know, trying to rob you." "You're forgiven." you tell her, placing a hand on her shoulder, "Come on, follow me." >Nodding, she complies as you weave yourself out of the alleyways. >Despite your assurances, the lagomorph looks like an animal who suspect they're being hunted, wary and alert, ready to run at any second. >As your group exits the alleyways, a group of ponies begins approaching from the distance. >"Halt!" one calls out, marching closer, allowing you to see his chain mail clad form, "City guard. We've had reports of a theft." >The groups eyes fall over your guest, her grimy form standing out from the rest of the group. >"Sir? Isn't that that satyr who's always picking pockets?" >"It is. Take her in." he orders as two of his subordinates move in. "Hold up." you announce, placing yourself between the guards and the shaking rabbit, "I was the one who made the claim, officers. We just had a little misunderstanding, is all." >"Is that so?" he asks, scanning over the lot of you, "So you're not pressing charges?" "No." >"Very well, saves me the work. But I've got my eye on you, rabbit." >With that the guards turn and make their way back into the town. >As they disappear into the crowd, you feel a tug on your shirt hem. >"Mr. Anon?" "Yes?" you say, looking down at a child who clearly hasn't had a break in some time. >"Thanks." >You simply smile back. >With your new tag-along now far more at ease, you continue to the inn. >The strange collection of people with you gain relatively few glances as you enter, the residents of the cosmopolitan city being used to all number of species. >Directing your family to a table, you all take a seat as a barmaid quickly makes her way over. >"Hey handsome. What'll ya have?" the young mare asks. "Seven bowls of pottage, six mugs of kvass, a mug of keffir, and a couple of very soft boiled eggs, please." >"You got it." she confirms, quickly ladling out the soupy food from the hunters pot on the hearth and levitating them to the table, along with a the eggs from the kitchen >Immediately, the small rabbit girl digs in, loudly slurping up the soup with the speed characteristic of someone who rarely eats. >To the side, you see the barmaid tapping kegs for your drinks. >The idea of serving alcohol to your kids never did sit very well with you. Even such pathetically weak stuff as this that couldn't hope to leave one drunk. >But given the alternative is drinking the unclean water available otherwise, it's the norm for anyone who can afford it. >"Here you go, that'll be twenty two bits. Upfront." >Rummaging through your pocket, you hand the coins over to the waiting mare, who hurries off to other patrons. >Settling in, you nurse your drink as you watch the kids eat. >Kimmy and Mera take turns draining their mug, the serpentine sibling swallowing her eggs whole while her twin works the soup with vigor. >Ariana eats quietly, her double portions feeding her enormous growth. >Lenora takes her meal in slowly, playing with her food in between enormous bites and drinks. >And Firginia picks at her meal, spending more time complaining that the pony made meal lacks meat than actually eating. Not that you can expect much more from a five year old. >Looking over, you see that the bunny has already finished her meal and is looking longingly at the bowl. >Feeling pity overtake you, you slide your bowl towards her. "Here, kid." >You're a little surprised at how quickly she snatches up the bowl, gulping down the pottage as quickly as she's able. "So, you wanna tell me your name now?" >She stops, looking up at you with a bit of resignation. >"Cottonball." she tells you before quickly going back to eating. "That's a nice name. How old are you, Cottonball?" >"I don't know... At least six." "Oh. Well, you look a few years older than six." you say, "In the best way." >"I probably am." she tells you as she pulls a necklace made of acorns on a string from under her cloak. "I add a new one every new year for good luck." "Aww. I'd like if you'd tell me how you ended up on the street." >"I don't know that either. I've just always been on the street, some of the other beggars taught me how to get by." >Looking up, you see your own children have gone silent, faces downfallen. >"Anyway" Cottonball begins as she stands, downing her drink in one long go, "I really appreciate what you've done for me, but I should be going." >Before you can object, the bunny presses into your side for a small hug before bolting out. >For a moment, your table sits silent. >"That was depressing." Kimmy speaks up to nods from the rest of the table. "Yes. Always be thankful for what you have, girls." >Shortly after, the barmare returns, collecting the emptied dishes in her magic. >"You need anything else, hun?" "Lodging for my group, please. And maybe a nice barmaid to keep me company tonight." You joke. >"How forward." she says with an amused snort. "Hones-" >"Daddy?" Ariana begins, grabbing your arms as she leans into you. "My stomach hurts." >"I think you've got your hooves full enough tonight as is. Thanks for the offer, though." she chides in the tone of a lady who's hit on a dozen times a night. "So how many beds will that be?" "Uh, Firginia? Are you gonna sleep in bed with daddy tonight, or do you want your own?" >"With daddy! Big town is scary and noisy, don't wanna be alone." "Four beds it is, then." >"Sixteen bits." >Using your free arm, you fish out the money into the unicorn's magical grip. >"Follow me." >You're led to a hall in the back that clearly looks like it was built on later to cater to larger species. >"Here you are." she tells you near the end, motioning to two rooms across from each other, "These two are yours. Don't make a mess." >Thanking her, you break into two groups, Ariana insisting on bunking with Firginia and yourself while Lenora and the twins take the other. >Firginia, for her part seems content to simply hop into bed, waiting while you tuck the giantess in. "Feeling any better, Ari?" you ask as you stroke her hair. >"Mmhmm. Thank you, daddy." she smiles. "Sleep tight, Ari." you tell her, hitting the lights and crawling into your bed. >As Firginia cuddles into your chest, you slowly drift off to sleep. - >Groaning, you rub your eyes as you adjust to the light. >Trying to shuffle out of your blanket, you find yourself constricted. >Gathering your bearings, the realization strikes that Ariana had swapped beds, her large frame now cuddled against your back. "Girls?" you say, trying to shake the two of them, "Girls, it's time to get up." >"Hmmn?" Ariana groans, while Firginia simply rolls over, stretching with a loud yawn. "Come on girls, we've got a long day ahead of us." >The two pull themselves out of bed, smoothing out their clothes and hair as they shake off the sleep. >Already full of energy and ready to go, the young timberwolf is the first out the door, knocking on her sisters room. "Another bad dream, Ari?" you inquire. >"Yeah..." "Come on, let's get your sisters." >In the hall, Lenora stands on wobbly feet, having been almost dragged from bed by her smaller sibling. "Morning, my little Sushi." >"Morning, dad." she responds with a yawn, "Morning everyone." "Where's Kimmy and Mera?" >"I dunno, they were out when I got up." >Motioning your progeny to follow, you head back into the main area of the inn. >There in common area you find the chimera, sitting near the hearth chatting up an innkeeper preparing for the morning rush. >Moving closer, you catch bits of their conversation about the finer points of cooking. "There you girls are." you call out. >As they turn, you see that Kimmy is still entirely asleep, leaving Mera with free reign over their body. >"Oh, good morning, Dad." "Mornin', Mera. Hope you bothered to get at least a bit of sleep yourself, sweetie." >She bobs her head yes. "Good." You reply, sliding a few bits across the bar, "A dozen fruit turnovers and two light boiled egg, please." >The stallion takes the coins before heading to grab your food. "Kimmy, time to get up." you say, lightly shaking her. >"Huh? Oh... Morning." She snorts without a surprise, not unused to waking up outside of bed in whatever spot Mera had walked her to. "Come on." You inform them as the pastries arrive, "We've got a little time to hit the market before we leave." >Simply scratching her head with a yawn, the chimera grabs her half loaf as your group follows you out. >"So what's the plan again?" Lenora groans, still shaking off the night. "I'm gonna let you girls pick out a new toy each, then we're gonna try to head out before lunch." >The group perks up in excitement, but you're quick to try to temper that. "Now now, keep it under ten bits each, and stay close. I don't want any of you wandering off, understand?" >"Yes sir." they respond in unison. "Good, let's go." >Ascending the mountain to the middle class section, you watch the city slowly come to life as you approach Canterlot's largest market. >Already, the crowds are starting to grow, but you already know what you intend to get. >Towering over the pony dominated crowds, it's easy to find your way and keep an eye on your children as they browse the stalls you pass. >Finally spotting your destination, a bookseller known for quality printings, you call your brood to attention as briskly make your way over. "Alright girls. Again, stay close." you remind them as you begin, haggling to squeeze as many books out of your budget as you can. >History, magic and science, guides on world cultures, instructionals. Even a human written math textbook. Anything that you feel can feed their education. >From the corner of your eye, you watch the girls running back and forth, searching for something that strikes their fancy. >Eventually, you finish making your selection, costing you a bit more than you'd have liked. >Looking back, you see the kids waiting with their selections. >Kimmy with a cheap wooden sword, Mera with a leather doll that could endure a lot of squeezing and biting, Ariana with a new journal, Lenora with some wrist ribbons, and Firginia with a cheap drum. "Girls?" You start sadly, "I'm afraid we're a bit short on money. One of you will have to give up your toy. >"But that's not fair!" Firginia cries. >Maybe you miscounted?" Ariana suggests. >"Who should give it up, dad?" Mera asks, acting as the voice of reason for the group. "I don't know. I think you should decide among yourselves, and I'll make it up to them later." >They let out a collective groan, and huddle up, bickering among themselves. "Hey, if I start hearing any fighting, nobody gets anything." you threaten, calming them down. >A few minutes of chatter later, Lenora steps back to a stall, returning her ribbons. "Proud of you, Sushi." you tell her as you wrap your arms around the manticore in a tight hug. >"Thanks, dad." she says, returning it. >Paying for the rest of their items, you heft up the pile of books and set off. >As you approach the edge of the market, you spot a familiar set of tall ears peaking from the equine crowds. >Figuring you'd like to tell the unfortunate child goodbye if nothing else, you decide to head over. >On drawing close however, you notice the girl is surrounded by unicorn children who, judging by their accessories and distinct, posh accents, are clearly from the upper classes. "Kids, stick back for a bit." You order before approaching. >"Gutter rat, gutter rat, you can tell because she talks like that!" The crowd chants in mockery of her rough, lower Canterlot accent, hurling coins at her with as much force as they can muster. >Cringing at the display, you step forward. "Alright kids, time to break it up." >Their attacks stop as they turn to you, looking up at you with contempt. >"Who are you?" one asks. "Her friend." you simply answer, "Time to move along." >"You can't tell us what to do! Do you know who my parents are?" one filly screeches as Cottonball unshields her face. >Rather than give her the satisfaction, you simply stare them down. >After a tense few moments, she backs down. >"Fine. We've got better things to do." she snips as the spoiled children trot away. >Turning, you offer the satyr a hand, helping her up. "Alright, Cottonball?" >"More than!" she exclaims with a large smile, as she scrambles back to the ground, picking scooping up the coins that were bounced off her head. "Cottonball, no. You can't let people pelt you with bits like that." >"Why not?" "Look at yourself, kid. You're covered in bruises and scraping coins out of the dirt." >Kneeling, you put a hand on her shoulder, trying your best to seem comforting. "This isn't a safe road to be on, Cottonball. And it's no way to live." >The bunny pulls away, clearly annoyed. >"Do you have a better idea?" >Taking a moment to think, you come up with an idea. >Knowing you can't take it back, you hesitate, but ultimately decide to go with it. "I could take you in if you'd like." >She stares at you, dumbfounded, mouth agape. >"W...why?" she finally croaks out. "Because I think you deserve better. And we humans have to stick together, right?" you say, holding out your hand. >Several silent moments pass. >"Are...are you for real?" "Absolutely. Three meals, a bed, some schooling, everything." >She rushes you, throwing her arms around your neck. >"THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!" she squeals, tears running down her dirty cheeks. "You're welcome, Cottonball." you tell her, gently pulling her away. "But you do have to keep a few things in mind." >"What..." she asks worriedly. "I need to let you know we live on a homestead way out in the backwoods, so you wouldn't be seeing Canterlot again for a long time." >"Oh. I, yeah I can deal with that..." "And you'll need to work like everyone else." >"What would I be doing?" she asks hopefully. "Just pitching in with the farming, housekeeping and other menial work. You lack the equipment, so you don't have to hunt with the rest of us. Is that acceptable?" >"Of course!" she replies with an emphatic nod. "Glad to have you aboard, Cottonball." you say, ruffling her hair. >"Glad to be aboard!" "We have our cart waiting at the Silver Pegasus stables at the south gates. We'll wait a bit if you have any belongings you'd like to collect, or goodbyes to say. But please try to hurry." >"Uh huh!" she nods again, scurrying off at a blistering pace. >Turning back, you return to your girls and begin the trek back to your cart. >For most of the hike, nobody addresses the elephant in the room, until Firginia finally breaks the silence. >"What were you talking to the bunny about, daddy?" "I was helping her with the bullies at first, but, well..." you pause, deciding to just break it bluntly. "Cottonball is coming home with us, girls. You're getting a new sister." >The group erupts into an incomprehensible chorus of chatter. "Girls!" you hush them. "One at a time." >The rest of the walk is spent answering question after question for your uncertain family. >Almost as soon as you arrive, your new adoptive daughter skids into the room, a loose burlap sack rattling with who knows what. "That was fast." you laugh, taking the sack to set into the cart while the girls beset their adoptive sibling with questions. >As everything is loaded up, the girls get into place, Lenora, Firginia and Cottonball opting to ride rather than walk for now as you grip the cart handles and pull. >Cottonball's heart thumps as the cart begins to roll, knowing her life is changing forever. >Across from her however, she notices the girl who caught her for, some kind of cat-scorpion hybrid thing she doesn't know the name for, staring daggers at her. >"Uh... Lori, was it?" >"Lenora." >"If, you know, you're still mad about before. I really am sorry." >"No... I'm mad because I didn't get any new toys, because dad spent a bunch of money on you." >Cottonball can feel the wind leave her sails, until an idea hits her. >Jumping back to the front of the cart, she begins rummaging through her meager belongings. >"Here!" she says triumphantly, handing the gift over to the feline satyr. "For you!" >"This isn't much of a gift." the grumpy girl responds, examining the ball of yarn. >"Sorry... It's all I have." >Lenora rolls the orb in her hand for a moment before smirking and giving the rabbit a light punch in the shoulder. >"Thanks. I guess you're not so bad." >Satisfied, Cottonball leans over the back of the cart and smiles as she watches the Equestrian capital slowly disappear over the horizon, thoughts of the future filling her mind. ***Stargazing*** Year 28 >The bunny lies awake in her hammock, the sound of crickets and the walls lightly creaking in the wind the only reprieve from the oppressive silence. >It had been barely a month since she had moved in with her new family, and while they had clearly tried their best to make her feel welcome, doubts remained that this was for her. >Inhaling sharply, Cottonball releases a small cough, the smell of predator tickling her nose and the back of her brain. >Groaning, she bunches up her bedding and hops down. >Slinking into a tight nook between the couch and the wall, the rabbit crawls into her makeshift burrow, enjoying the secure snugness. >As she begins to finally doze off, she's pulled from the border of dreamland by a clacking sound. >Unsure if it was her imagination, her ears scan the room, the rest of her body staying totally still. >The clacking continues, and her hand instinctively slips to her waist. >Fear briefly shoots up her spine as she realizes her dagger was gone, before remembering her family had taken it out of fear of her "jumpiness". >Slowly, Cottonball peaks out, eyes straining in the pitch darkness as she tries to make out the silhouette through a moonlit window. >Based on the jagged body, she determines it's Firginia, who's creeping slowly across the living room. >Curious, Cottonball watches as she slowly makes her way outside, silent save for the light click of wood on wood. >Slowly creeping from her blankets and to the window, she watches as the young timberwolf slinks into the gloom of night >Waiting for a few moments, curiosity gets the best of her, and she slowly reacher for the door handle, trying her best to stay silent. >Though she lost sight of her, Cottonball figures her direction would take her toward the small shed off to the side of the cabin. >Even as she gets close however, she sees no sign of the wooden girl. >Carefully opening the door, she finds the shed unoccupied when she's suddenly thrown off balance as a she's attacked from behind. >She falls, squealing as she's grappled. >"SHUSH!" comes a familiar voice. "I'm just playing, don't wake up daddy!" >The wolf releases the bunny from her bear hug, the panting bunny looking up at her from a fearful high. >Offering her hand, Cottonball stares for a moment, before cautiously grabbing it to be helped to her feet. >"What are you d-" >"SHHH! Keep it low!" Firginia harshly whispers. >"What are you doing out here?" the rabbityr repeats more quietly. >"A night walk! I like the night, but daddy doesn't like me going out because I'm too little. Wanna come with? >Surprised, the lagomorph looks around, everything past a few dozen feet being nothing more than an inky blackness. >"I don't think that's safe, Firginia. It's dark, and there's animals..." >"Don't be silly. Timberwolves can see real good in the dark," she shifts, showing her eyes glint in the moonlight. "and everything leaves us alone because you can't eat us." >"I think I'll pass..." >"Nope. Follow me, you'll like it." >Nervous, and feeling obligated, she meekly agrees to the younger girl's demand. >"I guess. Where are we going?" >The puppy points into the darkness past the house. >"There's a camp up the trail, have you been?" >"No? I don't think." >Flashing a toothy grin, Firginia reaches into the gloomy shed, retrieving a spear. >"Then grab a weapon, just in case, and follow me!" >Eyes straining in the darkness, Cottonball settles on a scythe. >"Silly bunny. A scythe isn't a weapon, no matter how cool they are." >"It's the only other thing I know how to use." she admits, shuffling her feet. >And not well, she internally feared, having never lifted one before coming to the valley. >Mr. Anon made everyone work a bit, but he'd been nice enough to just let her help in the house and a little farm work instead of hunting and hauling wood. >Part of her still worried about if an animal wandered too close to the house, though. >"Eh, fine. But just don't hit me if you freak out and start swinging like crazy, okay?" >Giving her guide a nod, the two head out. >For a time the longest time, Cottonball simply stays close, scarcely responding to Firginia's questions. >Traveling the wilds at night like this, and out in the open no less, leaves her feeling more than a bit exposed. >Approaching the base of the trail proper, a loud rustling startles the bunny. >"What was that!?" she shrieks, holding the handle of her scythe close to her chest. >"It's the wind, silly Cottonbunny~" she teases, "Come on, it's not far up." >The duo travel a ways up as the wind continues to kick, now howling across the mountain range. >Suddenly, Firginia juts her arm out, blocking her rabbit follower. >"Stop, animal." >Cottonball's large, spooned ears rotate in alert, scanning the area the timberwolf's looking at. >Sure enough, even amidst the heavy winds, her superior hearing picks up a distinct scratching and rustling from a shrub up ahead. >"Wh...what is it?" >"Probably an armydillo! Or a porcupine... or a skunk." >"Why do you think that?" >"Because! Because it's small, and we're not being quiet, but it's not scared of us because it doesn't have to be scared." >The two watch the bush for a moment. A rustle, pause, the sounds of digging, then more rustling. >After a few moments the creature steps onto the rocky trail. >"Prickle pup!" the wooden canine exclaims "Tasty! Have you hunted before Cotton? Here." >Handing the lagomorph her spear, the rabbit looks at the weapon anxiously. >"I don't know about this, Firginia. I don't wanna hurt anything." >Her concerns are brushed aside. >"It's just nature, we'll need breakfast." Firginia tells her as she's gently pushed forward. >Taking a deep gulp, Cottonball sets her scythe down and cautiously approaches the porcupine. >Noting the creature approaching it, the rodent quickly exposes its back to the bunny, squeaking out a threat. >"Go on. A quick jab is all it takes. Go for the heart or the head." >Cottonball readies her spear, trembling as she looks back. >"Firginia, I don't think-" >"Don't think! Hunt! Just stab!" >Shutting her eyes, the satyr thrusts the spear forward. >A faint clink can be felt as the rodent begins to squeal. >Opening her eyes, she sees the spear deep in the creature's back, piercing its spine and leaving its legs useless. >Panicking, she reaches in in a vain attempt to undo her attack, tears streaming down her face. >Her knee jerk altruism only earns her several quills to the side of her hand, however. >"No! You only hurt it!" Firginia says, running up. >Without hesitation, she slams her paw hard into the porcupine's head, quickly ending it with a short spasm. >"Daddy says it's wrong to hurt them more than you need to. Gotta make it quick. >Glancing down, she sees the bunny holding her quilled hand. >"Let me see." she demands, taking her by the wrist. >"It really hurts!" Cottonball cries. >"I know, I know. But it's only a few." she states, helping the rabbit up. "Don't try to pull them out now, there's a trick to it. Come on, camp's close." >Sucking it up, Cottonball chokes back her tears before taking up her scythe again, Firginia keeping their kill safely on the spear. >A short time later, the two arrive at the camp, a small mountainside cabin beside a waterfall, its stream cutting off the cabin off from the rest of the open flat. >"Well, here it is! What do you think?" >Cottonball squints as she looks across the flat. Despite the time, Cottonball finds herself surprised at having to adjust to the relative brightness of the full moon outside of the gloomy trail up. >"It's actually kinda cool, but... We're kinda far out. Won't Mr. Anon be mad?" >"Yeah! Daddy HATES when I sneak out. He's worried. I left a note, don't worry." >"Anyway, can we please get these spines out?" >"Oh! Sure. Lemme get a fire going." >Loosing a simple knotted rope lowers a short draw bridge across the small creek. >Presumably as an extra deterrence against animals. >"Alright," the puppy whispers, "let me check if anything's snuck in first." >Spear in hand, the wolf slowly creeps into the open air structure, depositing her kill to the side. >Moments later, a clatter can be heard before a family of raccoons scamper out, disappearing into the dark. >"You better run!" the timberwolf shouts to the vermin, shaking her spear before motioning the rabbit inside. >The two take a seat by the hearth as Firginia tries to light it. >Several strikes of flint later yields no effect on the kindling. >"Want me to go get some try grass or something?" >"I got it!" she states before reaching down. >In a single deft motion, she peels a long layer of bark from a segment of her leg. >"BY THE!" Cottonball exclaims, wide eyed "Does... does that hurt?" >"Nope!" she casually replies, bending and stressing the piece until it's frayed into fluffy fibers. "Was getting dry and itchy." >A few more strikes of the flint gets an ember glowing, slowly growing into a proper fire. >"There!" she announces as the girls adjust their eyes. "Now, where's those pliers?" >The bunny studies her surroundings as her adoptive sister rummages the shack. >Truthfully, there's not much to the place. Just some essentials. >Basic tools, some blankets, some more wood stacked in a corner, a few boxes, and what seems to be a tarp strung to a line to be used for the fourth wall. >One box, she notes, is damaged. >Getting closer, she notices stacks of crackers inside, broken and half eaten. >"What's this, Firginia?" >"Huh? AH! Dumb raccoons got into the hardtack!" >"Hardtack? What's that?" >"Oh. Umm. It's like crackers, but they're bad and really hard to chew." she explains, pausing. "But they don't go bad, I guess. So we keep lots around. Anyway, pliers. Show me your hand, bunny!" >Complying, Cottonball presents her quilled limb to the wooden puppy. >A couple dozen of the spikes are simply plucked away with no effort or pain, having barely penetrated the skin. Those left are deeper, drawing pained grunts from the rabbit when agitated. >"Alrighty, FIRST! You gotta clip the tips." she tells her patient as she repeats the process on each needle. >"Why?" Cottonball asks between winces. >"I, hmm. I forget, I'll ask daddy later. But you should. Clip!" >One by one, the barbs are cut down. >"Now, you just twist and pull. Straight up. Like so." the canine demonstrates using her hands. >The modified hairs pull free from the fatty tissue with ease as the unfortunate victim squeaks in pain. >This process is repeated several times until all that remains is a single barb buried down to the bone. >Flesh bends around the penetration, signaling it's severity. >"Alright Cottonbunny. Last one, this one will hurt." >Nodding, Cotton grits her teeth in anticipation as Firginia grabs the base of the quill with her pliers. >Spinning it, the rabbityr cries out as the agonizing intruder is pulled free, blood trickling out after it. >Freed from the quills, the bunny pulls back her hand, lightly crying as she nurses it. >"I think I'm gonna go wash this, okay Firginia?" >"'Kay. I'm gonna cook. Remember, moving water's cleaner!" she shouts back as the rabbit leaves. >Sitting at the bank of the small basin bored into the ground by the tiny falls, Cottonball stares up at the sky, zoning out as she enjoys the cool mist spraying from the water. >The water beads on her skin, soaking up some of the warmth of the balmy night. >A chill runs through her as the wind picks up again, far stronger than before. >Scooting away a bit, she resumes her reverie for a moment before her ears perk up to the sound of crunching grass behind her. >Tensing, she notices the sound stops briefly, and in that instant she bolts to the side. >Looking back, she sees the timberwolf crouched where she had just been. >"Aww, you heard me?" she giggles. "But you looked so relaxed." >"Why'd you try to jump me?" >"Because it's funny." >Huffing, Cottonball simply watches as the younger hybrid washes the blood from her arms. >"So, the food?" >"Skinned up and cooking. Kinda messed up the skin though..." >The two sit in silence for a few moments before Firginia pipes back up. >"So you like it out here? Out of the city?" >"I like having a home, but..." >"Buuuut?" >"I'm not used to being around the same few people. And the quiet hurts." she sighs. >Figinia is taken aback by the claim, trying in vain to wrap her head around it. >"How does quiet hurt?" the wolf asks, admitting defeat. >"Well... I guess the city is usually so noisy, I just feel like whenever it gets too quiet, it means something bad is about to happen." >"OH! Same thing happens out here! Be careful if all the birds and bugs go quiet, means something big's hunting." >"That... doesn't help. Wait!" she begins, realization hitting her. "Then why do the birds still sing near the house with all you guys?" >"Because they couldn't hide if they wanted!" Firginia replies with an exaggerated flex of her arms before giggling. "Used to us, probably." >The timberwolf calms down a bit as the two sit, listening to the crickets and frogs and chatting as they wait. >Without notice, the wolf suddenly motions the older girl up. >"It's about to rain." she states plainly. >"What?" >Looking up, Cottonball sees nothing but radiantly twinkling stars. >"Are you sure?" >"Uh huh. I can feel the air change." she tells her as she rises, her wooden lower half groaning and scraping against itself more than normal. "Probably coming with the wind." >It hadn't occurred to her, but the wind had been picking up and sweeping down into the valley. >She had no way of knowing what was beyond the mountains. >Silently taking her adopted sister by the arm, she leads her toward the edge of the cliff and takes a seat. >"Cottonbunny! Watch the stars with me before the clouds get here." >"Shouldn't we get back home?" >"PFFFT!" she brushes the suggestion off. "And waste good meat?" >The wooden puppy pats the ground, beckoning the rabbits to sit. >Finally acquiescing, Cottonball takes her place at her side. >Firginia slowly points up, drawing Cotton's eyes along her finger in the gloom as she takes in the breadth of the night sky. >Before her lay an enormous tapestry of many colors, twinkling in the wind. >A sense of insignificance falls over her as she takes in the vast oceans of stars and clouds spacedust that have overtaken the bleak, empty city sky she knows. >"First time seeing it?" >"Yeah, uh. I've stayed in at night since I got here." >An uncomfortable silence hangs in the air for a moment before the wolf speaks back up. "I hate the city. It's loud and smelly and way too bright." >Cottonball doesn't respond, her gaze lazily drifting down to the field below. >She takes in the vast plains of grass moving in rhythmic waves as it dances to the winds whim, flashes of silver moonlight carried on their crest. >A surprise hug breaks Cottonball from her thoughts. >"I hope you like it here, Cottonbunny." she states hopefully, nuzzling her. >Smiling, she returns the embrace as clouds slink past the moon, reducing the light to an eerie gray haze. >"Guess you missed your chance to howl at it." Cottonball giggles. >"SAYS YOU!" she bounds up, letting loose a series of chipper calls across the valley before she collapses back down giggling, Cottonball laughing right along. >As the two calm down, they decide it'd be best to get inside. >Pulling the curtain closed, the two prepare for the night as the sound of rain begins pattering across the roof. ***Growing Up**** Year 29 >Rolling a chunk of dough into a small, flat cake, you briefly dunk the pastry into the pot of boiling oil before lightly glazing it with honey. >The last of probably a hundred such pastries you've made tonight. >Setting it aside on a platter with the rest of them, you head outside to check the rest of the meal. >Over a large fire pit, multiple spits stand, skewering a number of game animals cooking over the low coals. >Center stage sits three separate wild boars, their tender meat destined for the main course. >Seeing the sun beginning to crest the mountains, you hurry up, giving the meat a final turn and the large cauldron of stew a final stir. >Rushing back inside to take the meat pies out of the hearth, you find Lenora sitting in the kitchen, already digging into the pastries. "Lenora!" you start in a harsh whisper, "What do you think you're doing?" >"Nothing..." the manticore claims with a sheepish smile, slowly setting the treat down. "You might as well finish that one. But you just volunteered for extra chores this morning." >Lenora huffs in annoyance, popping the rest of the pastry into her mouth. "Here." you begin by offering her a broom, "Why don't you start by sweeping up the kitchen." >"Yes sir." she grumbles as you begin pulling out the rest of the food. >The two of you work for some time as Lenora's annoyance fades back into the indifference of routine and acceptance of her punishment. "So." you break the silence. "How'd you sleep, kitten?" >"Petty good! I dreamed about flying again!" her chipper demeanor quickly falling as she gives her wings a useless flap, "I really wish I could actually fly." "I do too, Sushi. Would be so useful." >"And fun!" she adds with a small giggle. "And fun, yes." >Glancing at the sun creeping to the six notch on your front windowpane, realization of your fatigue begins to set in, an entire night spent prepping having taken its toll. "Tell you what, Lenora. If you can do me a little favor, I'll let you have a couple more sweets early." >"Sure, what's up?" she asks eagerly. "Daddy's been up all night and needs a nap. If you can play quietly, and tell your sisters to keep it down when they get up, I'd appreciate it." >"I can do that!" she begins, "Uhh, when should I get you up?" "Around Eight thirty or nine. If Zarina turns up early though, get me up immediately." >"Yes sir." she nods. "Good girl. Grab yourself two or three more sweets. Our secret." >Stretching, you plop down into your large, comfy chair near the hearth and conk out almost instantly. - >"Dad?" you're awoken with a shake. "Daddy? Time to wake up!" >Groaning, you reach out to the manticore, who helps pull you up. "Thank you, sweetie." you say with a stretch before smoothing out your clothes. >Stepping out, you see the rest of your brood hanging out near the fire pit, staring towards the north path. >A dot in the distance grows ever closer, ever larger, glinting a brilliant rainbow of colors in the sun. "Zarina!" you call out as the giant's stride brings her into focus. "Good to see you!" >"Anon!" she returns in her booming voice, picking up her pace. >In a few long paces, the arimaspi makes her way to the yard. >"Ariana! Happy birthday baby girl!" she begins, reaching out towards to her daughter. >"Hi mom..." the now dwarfed giant says as she returns her mother's affection. >"How's my little munchkin been doing?" >"Pretty good!" she says with a more enthusiasm, "The hunting's been good and Daddy and everyone's been helping me with my writing." >"That's wonderful! I hope I can get an autographed copy when you're a famous author!" >Pulling away from her child, she turns to the rest of the family. >"I hope everyone else has been well." she says as she scans the crowd. "Anon, Kimmy, Mera, Lenora, Firginia. Oh who's this!?" >Leaning in, the giant comes eye to eyes with the diminutive rabbit. >Cottonball stares into Zarina's enormous, singular eye, the giant's natural head wobble becoming exaggerated to increase her depth perception as she drinks in every detail. >"I...I'm Cottonball." she stutters. "Mr. Anon adopted me a little while back." >"Well, aren't you just the cutest little morsel!" she jokes, flashing her gold capped teeth, "I hope we can get to know each other a bit better later." >"Yeah..." Cottonball responds nervously. >"Anyway." she begins as she pulls back from the group, "I really need to talk to your father in private. You kids go ahead and start eating, we'll catch up." "Oh? Yeah. We'll be back soon!" you respond excitedly. "Happy birthday, Ari. Try not to fill up on sweets." >"Can I come, daddy?" the smaller arimaspi returns. "I'm afraid not, sweetheart. Grown up stuff. Don't worry, we'll be back soon." >"But... it's my birthday!" the flustered goat retorts. "Perhaps we should shelf this until later?" you ask, looking to Zarina. >The giantess gives a firm shake of her head, her stern glare leading you to suspect there's more than a little sex on the menu. "Sorry Ari. We'll try not to be gone for too long." you tell her as you reach up to ruffle her hair. >She bows her head dejectedly as you set off, your other children waving you off as you head towards your usual spot. >Hitting the forest line, the goat-gorilla hybrid takes you in her arms as she rises to a full bipedal stance, bringing her to a dizzying thirty feet. >Despite her size, Zarina effortlessly bobs and weaves between the narrow trees with mystifying caprine grace. >In no time at all, you arrive in the same shaded glade you find yourself returning to whenever Zarina visits. >As the gilded tower of muscle and fur plants you back on solid ground, you give the place a once over. >"Looks the same as always, doesn't it. Nothing ever changes here." she states, shifting back to a semi-quadrupedal style. "Yeah. It's calm, quiet and sometimes boring as hell. But it's peaceful, and it suits me well enough." >Sidling up to her, you gently rub one of her enormous digits to get her attention. "So, you ready for a little fun then?" >"Anon..." she starts sullenly, "I actually brought you here to talk about that." >A pit forms in your stomach, quickly realizing just where this is going. "I see." you sigh, "What exactly did you need to say?" >"I like you, Anon. You know that, and I love our daughter. But we both knew this was never going to truly go anywhere," she tells you as she begins to pace. "We're from different worlds, and it'd be unsafe besides." "I know that Zarina. I just... what prompted this now?" >"I just realized something recently. I'm nearly a hundred and twenty. I'm getting old, too old to be adventuring, almost too old to have proper kids and start a real family." "Proper kids?" you spit angrily. "What do you mean by that?" >"Oh! No no. I didn't mean it like that. I love my little munchkin, but I rarely see her." >She breaks eye contact, stifling tears before continuing. >"Ariana's barely the size of a toddler by arimaspi standards. And I'm always so scared that I'll hurt her. That I'll hurt you, that I'll hurt your other children. I will always be an outsider in this family." >Caught off guard, you sit silently, trying to compose some kind of response. "Zarina, I... I'm sorry you feel that way, and I wish I could say you were wrong." >"Don't worry, Anon. I'll still visit. But I'm currently looking for a good billy to settle down with, and I just can't continue this. The physical side of our relationship is over, I'm afraid." "I don't blame you," you respond with resignation. "But you never told me what actually prompted this." >"Anon..." she trails off, pushing idly against a pine until it snaps, coming down with a thunderous crash, "There's something you need to know. Last time I visited, you got me pregnant again and..." "And?" you press, feeling a pit forming. >"He was, well, he was born sickly. He passed on his third night." she tells you, her large eye beginning to mist. "I'm sorry." >Her news hits like a punch to the gut. >Taking a seat on a flat stone, you breath deep as you try to process the news. >The arimaspi reaches down, running the back of her finger across your cheek, wiping away a tear you didn't even realize you'd shed. "What did you do with him?" >Taking a deep breath, she reaches behind her, unfastening a stone block from the large pack chained to her back. >"I figured you'd want to lay him to rest yourself." she says as she gently places it on the ground. >A dull sensation spreads through your limbs as you stare at the marble casket. >As you attempt to reach out to the lid, Zarina's enormous paw clamps down across the sarcophagus. >"Are you sure you want to do that, Anon?" "No, I don't want to. But I need to see his face, at least once, you know?" >With a knowing sigh, she lifts the hefty stone lid, releasing the pungent scent of decay. >Powering through the smell, you peer inside. >Below you, swaddled in silk and with a gold and ruby circlet placed lovingly on his unfused head lays the desiccated and partially skeletonized remains of a tiny humanoid. >Even with most of his body being covered, it's easy to tell what he is. >Between the clearly human skull, the sharp teeth meant for rending, the small horn nubs and the trio of eye sockets, there's no doubt in your mind that this is your child. >With trembling hand, you reach in, running a finger down the leathery remains of his cheek. >Choking back tears, you withdraw. >Taking the hint, Zarina reseals the cask. >"It's alright," she coos as gently as her deep voice will allow. "I know how you feel." >She leans in, allowing you to hug into her large snout. >You silently nuzzle Zarina, her thick pelt absorbing your tears as you grieve. >Several minutes pass before you finally let loose, trying to regain your composure. "What's his name?" you finally ask. >"Damil. In honor of my grandfather. I... wish they had not had to meet so soon." "Yeah..." you sigh. >"So, how should we handle the little one?" "We, uhh, we have a little cave I set aside for interment. You know, just in case." >Zarina silently nods, picking both you and the child's tomb up. >Pointing the way for her, she sets off. >Not wanting to upset the kids, you take an indirect path, making Zarina keep to a quadrupedal walk, allowing the trees to obscure your journey from sight. >Soon arriving at a small alcove sheltered against the mountainside, you dismount. "Well. This is it," you tell her, opening the gate to the fenced enclosure. >"Seems empty." "Thankfully. Only ones here are Firginia's mother and a plaque for Lenora's. Well... before today." >"I hope you need not use it again for a long time." >Nodding, you examine the area a bit, looking for a good spot. "Arimaspi prefer not to bury their dead, correct?" >"Yes. We traditionally display our loved ones in catacombs, and leave offerings of valuables. Humans bury them?" "We have many ways of doing it. But burial is the most common." >"Then since it is not sacrilege to you, I simply must insist that you not condemn his spirit to the earth." "That's perfectly alright," you tell her. >Finally, you settle on a spot, where the winds blowing through the cave carry a particularly heavy scent of pine from the small tree sprouting from the grave of Firginia's mother. "Here." you state, marking a spot in the dirt, "This is a nice spot." >Using her mighty fists, Zarina presses a hard packed divot into the forest soil before sliding the sarcophagus into the shallow pit. >You sit for some time with the giant, simply staring at your son's final resting place. >"It is a nice spot." Zarina says, breaking the silence, "But, there are other children we should be worrying about right now." "Yeah," you nod, "There's a stream not far from here we should stop by first, though. We have been handling the dead, after all." - >"We're back, kids!" Zarina calls out as the two of you hit the open valley. >Your brood briefly wave back before going back to what they were doing, having long since finished their meals and moved on to playing. >Looking around, you spot Cottonball and Firginia kicking about a leather ball, while Lenora entertains herself by racing back and forth from the house to the furthest garden. >"Girls? Where's the birthday girl?" you ask the twins, who are reading near the pit. >"Back yard." Mera directs you. "What's she doing there?" >"Dunno, she's been sitting back there since she finished eating." Kimmy adds. >Nodding, you decide to head around back to get her, but she beats you to the punch. >"Daddy!" Ariana shouts, running over to the two of you. "You're back!" "Hey sweetie. Happy twelfth. Hope you're having fun.", you say, noting her puffy eyes. >"It's been alright..." she says with a restrained sniffle. "I made you something!" >Reaching out, she places a small crown woven from wildflowers on your head. >"Do you like it?" the goat asks shyly. "I love it, Ari. Makes me feel like a king." you tell her, earning a small smile from her. >"It's very well made," Zarina interjects. "Do you have one for me, perhaps?" >"No... I, I didn't have enough flowers." >"That's alright," she says as she reaches into her pack, "I brought you one." >From her claw dangles an elaborate piece of jewelry. >Compared to the other jewelry Zarina had brought your daughter, the piece is extremely ornate. >"I... I mean, I appreciate it, mom. It's very pretty but... it seems a bit much for me?" >"Aww, nonsense, baby. It's your nethi chutti. Your bridal headdress." >"What?!" >A chorus of chatter erupts from your other children. >From the twins joking laughter, to Firginia innocently wondering when her sister got married. "Bridal headdress? Zarina, don't you think this is a bit inappropriate?" >"Twelve is the cusp of maturity for humans, yes?" "It's when our bodies begin to change, but we still have a lot of growing up to do >"Then the time is perfect." she begins as she drapes the golden chains across her daughters head. "You're a blossoming nanny, Ariana. I'm so proud." >"I'm not sure I'm comfortable with this, mom." the red faced tween blurts. >"Right now, you only need to wear it for today. But one day, you'll find a nice billy, and this will symbolize your union to the world." >Zarina drifts off for a moment, rubbing her forehead briefly. >"I sometimes wish I were able to wear my own. Anyhow, please go get all your jewelry on, Ariana." >Ariana meekly raises her hand, clearly with an intent to protest before she sighs and heads inside. >Taking a seat, you try to just destress, hoping to take your mind off of things with food. >You watch as Zarina grabs one of the roast boars while she waits, tearing a huge chunk from it in a single, bone crunching bite. >Several minutes later, Ariana returns, glinting with the many valuables her mother had gifted her throughout her life. >Settling in, you opt to simply observe for now. >The next several hours pass in a haze of activity as you slowly drown your worries by burning through your wine stores, letting Zarina mother the children as she so clearly desires. >While her focus stays firmly on imparting traditions upon her own child, the rest of your progeny are invited, as always, to join her lessons. >As expected, your self medication only sours your mood further, and a couple of hours in, you find yourself at the mercy of your own thoughts. >Making the smarter choice, you retreat to a small knoll near the house from which you can still overlook the party, leaving the drink behind and keeping out of the way. >By the time you feel your mind clearing, the sun burns low on the horizon, washing the sky pink and orange. >You watch as the party clears, the kids going inside as Zarina lumbers off to claim a clear patch to sleep nearer the mountains. >Debating internally on if you should head inside, you're soon broken from your stupor by the sound of grass crunching under heavy hooves. >"Daddy?" the young giant asks, plopping down next to you. "Hey, birthday girl. What's up?" >"Nothing, I... is there something wrong?" "That obvious, huh?" you reply with a chuckle. >Ariana quietly nods. "Yeah. But it's kinda private, you know?" >"But, you missed my birthday over it. You've never done that, so I know it's bad." >"Ari..." >"Please? You always said family watch out for each other, and I can tell you're really upset." >Taking a deep breath, you rack your brain, looking for the words to explain, when a couple of ideas hit you. "Tell you what, sweetheart. If you'll tell me why you were crying behind the house, I'll tell you what's wrong with me." >She flinches back, concern written across her face. >"Just... I." she stutters, standing, "I'm not, well. I was thinking about mom." "What do you mean?" >"Mom always brings all this jewelry for me, and goes on about how a nanny should behave and stuff." "She's just trying to share your culture with you, Ari. She means well." >"I know." she sniffles, "But I'm not a 'normal' arimaspi. I don't like jewelry." she glowers, slinging a copper bracelet into the ground with enough force to partially bury it. >Taken aback by her outburst, the giantess takes a deep breath to compose herself before continuing. >"And then I always feel upset with myself that I don't appreciate it enough. I like the life I have here, the way we do things. I don't like her trying to change it!" >Standing, you pull the ring from the earth, dusting and bending it back into shape as you approach. >Anticipating your next move, she holds out her arm, allowing you to slip it back on. "For what it's worth, you're absolutely stunning in it." you state, planting a small kiss on the back of her hand. >"Thank you, daddy. But it's just not me, and I wish mom would focus more on learning who I am than telling me about what she wants me to be." "I take it you've tried taking this up with her?" you inquire. >"More times than I can count. Every time, she just brushes it off and goes back to what she was doing." "Yeah... I've noticed that. But Ari, you gotta keep in mind, she's willing to walk hundreds of miles out of her way every year just to see you for a few days. She's trying to cram her time with you." >"I know. But I just don't like it. Every year I look forward to seeing her less and less." she states glumly. "Yeah?" >"Yeah. This year I... knew it was a big deal. A milestone. And I kinda..." she trails off with light sobs," I hoped she just wouldn't show, so I wouldn't have to deal with all her expectations." >Ariana breathes deep for a moment, tears trailing from her golden eyes. >"Does that make me a bad person?" she asks with a fearful tremble. >The last of your drunkenness seems to wash away as you tug her wrist, gentle beckoning her to kneel. "Of course not, Ari." You tell her, wrapping your arms around her, "Your mother's not perfect, Ari. But neither am I, nor are your sisters, or even you." >"I know that, daddy..." "Sometimes, even people you love will disappoint and upset you, no matter what you expected. And it's alright to feel that way, it doesn't have to mean you don't love them anymore." >You let her sob a moment longer before you continue. "When Zarina and I were talking, she told me how much she wished she could be around more. But she's so scared of hurting all of us that she can't." >"R...really?" "Yeah. Just try to remember. Even if you don't like what your mother's doing, it doesn't come from a place of hate. You girls don't like when I discipline you, but you know I do it because I love you." >Ariana sits huddled into you chest, sniffling as you stroke her hair. >"Daddy?" she begins, breaking the silence after several minutes. "Do you ever wish you could go home, and be with your family again?" "Sweetie. This is my home. And you girls are my family." >"Don't tease." she chides, "You know what I meant." >"I miss them, and I'd like to visit, but if I had to choose, I'd stay here. I wouldn't leave you girls, I just..." >As you trail off, Ariana pull back a bit, forcing open her center eye to meekly meet your gaze as tears continue to flow from the other two. >"Wish what?" "Whenever I think about it, I can only think of how distressed they must be. To them, I just disappeared. I'll always be a burning question to them. I wish I could just tell them I'm alright. That I'm safe and happy." >She looks away, clearly unsure of what to say. >"I'm sorry." she mutters uncertainly. "Not your fault." you reply, patting her on the head, "But thanks." >Pulling out of the hug, she returns to her seat at your side, peacefully watching the sunset with you. >"So, um. What was bothering you earlier?" she asks. >You flinch internally. "Oh. It's nothing compared to all that." You tell her, opting not to pile the news of her brother onto her right now, "It's Zarina. She, well, she broke it off with me today." >"Really!?" she blurts out in shock, with the slightest tinge of excitement, "What happened? Why?" "Well sweetie, your mother is getting older. She's decided to hang it up with the treasure hunting and settle down." >"Oh," she begins, trying to stay stone faced, "Is she still going to visit?" "Probably. But I feel that she probably won't be forcing you to wear as much jewelry when she comes over," you tease. >"I think I'd like that." >Looking to the sky, you note that the light is dying fast. "Anyway, it's getting dark. Maybe we should head in." >"Actually... I was wondering if we could stay here a little longer. We could watch the sunset together, without anyone else." "Of course, Ari," you reply with a nod, "Anything for my birthday girl." >The young goat plops herself against a small tree, beckoning you over with a smile. >Taking a seat in the giant's lap, she wraps her fuzzy arms around you as you lean back, taking in the sight of the August sun dying the fields of rolling grass a fiery orange. >You sit together quietly as the last of the day's swelter washes over you. "So," you begin, "What kind of stuff did your mom want to teach you anyway?" >The enormous satyr gives a deep snort before speaking. >"Just a lot of coming of age stuff. Some old prayers, poise and grace, and how a nanny is supposed to tell a billy she's interested." "Heh, really? And how's that?" >"Just a bunch of silly, over complicated stuff," she mutters as she hugs you tighter. "I like this more." >Brushing off her comment, you return your gaze to the horizon as the sun dips lazily behind the mountains. ***An Appointed Time*** Year 31 "Alright kids. I'm gonna be gone for a while. Until I'm back, I want you to listen to Mr. Apple. I expect you to help out, be respectful, and don't leave the farm without telling him. Understand?" >"Yes sir." the group rings out obediently. >Throwing out your arms, you beckon them in for hugs goodbye. "Firginia, don't kill any of the Apple's chickens this time." >"I won't." she confirms with a blush as she unwraps herself from around your neck, "Promise." "Lenora?" you say as you pull her into a one armed hug alongside your bunny. "Stay out of trouble. Cottonball? Make sure Lenora stays out of trouble." >"Hey!" >"Will do, sir!" she acknowledges with a mock salute. "Aria-" you begin before you're scooped into the giantess' arms. >"Bye, Daddy. Stay safe." "I will. Careful around the small people, alright?" >"Mmhmm." she mutters, giving you a small snuggle before setting you down. "Love you." "Love you too, all of you." >Turning back, you address the farm patriarch one final time. "Thank you for doing this. It's really appreciated." >"Ain't no need for thanks, just do what you need to do. Them girls deserve that much. Get." >Shaking his hand, you climb into the back of the wagon with Kimmy and Mera. "Ready sweethearts?" >"Yeah..." >"I hope..." "Henry, was it?" you address to the large bull the Apples asked to pull your wagon. "We're ready to go." >"Yep." he mutters with a snort as the wagon creeps forward. >Despite making a brisk pace thanks to your quadrupedal assistant, the days pass slow in slow, tense silence as you and the twins avoid each others gaze, and the elephant in the room. >Ultimately, you decide it best to simply give them their space. >Eventually however, you find yourself on the last night of the journey. >Sitting by the campfire, you're simply examining the parchment scrap for the hundredth time, contemplating sleeping to simply get the night over with, and staying up to hold tomorrow off. >"Daddy?" you hear, spoken in Kimmy's distinctive gravel. "What are you looking at?" "Hello girls." you sigh, "It... it's nothing. Don't worry." >"That's a lie. Please tell us?" The viper returns. >Groaning, you hand the flier to them. "It's... the announcement, of execution. The one the Apples brought us." >"Oh... sorry I asked." Kimmy responds. >"I didn't realize you would keep it." Mera adds with all the grimace her reptilian face can muster. "It's just one of those things you're supposed to keep. Tuck it away in some box somewhere, maybe." >"I don't think you ever let us actually read it before." the tigress mutters as she begins to focus on the slip, her feline eyes letting her read even in the scarce light. >Tears mist the larger chimeras eyes as she reads. >Words like banditry, smuggling and murder stick out in the twins minds. >Their body goes limp, quietly staring into the fire. >Sliding up to them, you drape your arm across Kimmy's shoulder, hoping you can bring them some comfort. >A twinge of a smile crosses your lips as you feel Mera wrap around your arm, resting her head in your palm to seek comfort. >As you begin massaging the viper's head, her sister finally speaks up. >"Dad? Can you save mom?" "I, no. I can't." you admit as she leans in, pressing her face into your chest, "I really wish I could, girls. I do. But I can't." >She doesn't respond as she wraps her arms around you, sobbing quietly into your chest. >For the longest time, you comfort them, gently kneading the stress from Mera as you stroke Kimmy's hair, tracing her notched horns under your fingers. >"Daddy?" "Yes, sweetie?" >"How did..." she pauses, gaining her courage, "How did you and mom actually meet? Can you tell us about them?" >"You've never really spoken about them, dad. I'd like to know too." >The question hits you like a punch to the gut. >Steeling yourself, you do your best to articulate. "Well girls, I guess you're old enough to hear the whole truth. First, how much do you actually remember?" >"Well." they say in unison, looking into each others eyes as they rack their brains. >"I remember a lot of crumbling brick buildings, and tents." >"Lots of really loud people, and mom yelling at herself." >"Yeah, well you're probably remembering right. I'll start from the beginning. I ended up here really young. A young man of seventeen, full of piss and vinegar." >Pulling away from them, you stoke the fire a bit before continuing. "Imagine being separated from everything you knew. I tried to make the best of it and go exploring this strange new world. Wanted to be an adventurer. I was too young and dumb to consider how dangerous that was." >"As opposed to old and dumb like you are now?" Kimmy jokes with a sad smile, drawing a faint giggle from her sister. "Hey! I'm not that old." you tease. "Anyway, when I met your mothers, she was in the middle of being attacked on someone on the road." >"Attacked?" "Yeah. In retrospect, I think they were looking to collect bounties. I was pretty scruffy, so he probably thought I was with them and ran off when I turned up." >"Was she hurt?" "A bit. We got away from the area, set up camp, and I helped tend their wounds." >Reaching over, you boop the two of them on their little noses. "And that's the night the two of you were conceived." >"Daaad! >"Daddy, please!" "Anyway, the next day, she asks if I'd like to join up with the crew she was with." >"Her crew?" "Yeah. A few questions later, I find out she was part of a small group of highwaymen." >You let the sentence hang for a moment before continuing. "Anyway, I think better of it. A few years later, Zarina shows up, and I set out to find you girls. Took a bit, but here you are." >The two seem contemplative for a moment, eying you up. >"So... mom really is a bandit, then?" "I'm afraid so, girls. I don't know how bad she was, or how many of these claims she's guilty of, though. I wasn't around them for more than two days." >"What about when you actually got us?" "Well. I wasn't about to walk up to a bandit camp alone, obviously. I hired some mercs to just kinda hang back in case things went south. Her boss let me in, thankfully." >"Was it hard to get us out?" Mera presses? "I wish I could tell you that it was a tearjerker for them, but she... they didn't mind me taking you two. They just seemed happy to have you off their paws." >"Is that really true?" >"That's really mean!" "Let me tell you two another story. I'm sure you've noticed that your names are a bit, well, on the nose?" >"Well. Yeah, kinda." Kimmy responds, avoiding eye contact. >"I have wondered about that." "That was your mothers doing." you inform them, "Just names to identify you. I don't think love or attention went into them." >"So we're just kinda stuck with this because of their laziness?" the tigress asks in a hurt tone. >"Their indifference." "If it makes you feel any better, I actually did try to rename you when you were small, but you were already used to "Kimmy and Mera"." you tell them, "You two would have none of it. It was pretty cute, honestly." >They don't seem to find much amusement in this, however. >Seeing them like this, tears streaking down Kimmy's face, Mera's held back only by her physical inability to do the same, as they both quiver with conflicted emotions. "Look girls." you begin, pulling them into a hug, "I'm sorry that I made you more upset, but you need to be prepared for tomorrow. I hope you get a heartfelt resolution but... don't bank too hard on it, okay?" >They can only nod quietly in your arms. "Anyway." you finish off as you give them a kiss on their foreheads. "We should get some sleep." - >The following morning starts bright and early as a quiet falls over the group. >Very few words are exchanged, even between the twins, as you make your way onward. >As the sun begins to burn away the morning dew, you finally pull into your destination, the small town of Pommel Crest at the base of the Foal Mountains. >Looking around the map dot of a town, you quickly spot your destination. "Here." you say, pointing out the guard station, before quickly pulling in. >Dismounting, the bull quickly frees himself of his harness as you approach. "Here," you begin, offering him a small pouch, "Why don't you head over to the inn, take a load off for a while. It'll be a long trip back tomorrow." >He quickly takes the pouch with an appreciative nod before leaving you along with your girl. >Only now do you notice the glares of the ponies in town. Not just at you, but at your girls. >Turning away, you opt to address them instead. "Moment of truth, sweethearts. You sure you're ready for this?" >The two look each other in the eyes, holding a silent conversation as every emotion in the book plays across their faces at once. >"Yes." Mera finally responds, taking charge for her sister. "We're ready." "Alright. Stay close and try not to make a scene, please." >Gulping, you step inside to the glares of several guards. >"Got business?" one quickly inquires. "Yes. I wish to speak to the jailer." >"Oh. Down the far right stairs. Don't start trouble." >Following his directions, you soon enter a room full of cells, with a heavily armed guard milling about. >"Halt!" he cries out. "State your business." "We're hear to visit Dirce, Cilla and Ino." you state. >"Who?" "The chimera." you clarify. >He eyes up the twins standing behind you, before looking back to you. >"You family I take it?" "Yes," you confirm, "our girls would greatly appreciate some closure, if you would allow it." >"Can you please let our mom go?" Kimmy chokes out, approaching the guard to Mera's shock. >Seeing the armed pony clearly feeling intimated by the larger teen, you pull her back. "Sweetheart, please behave." you instruct her before turning back. "Sorry about that." >"Right. Well, there's absolutely no way I can release those menaces, even if I wanted to. I'm not too keen to have its associates running around my jail either." he adds accusingly. >The girls seem clearly upset at his statement, prompting you to step between them and him. "It's not like that, sir. We're not part of their group, we haven't even seen them in many, many years. The kids just want a chance to, you know. Say goodbye." >He lets out a long, exasperated sigh as he eyes the three of you up. >"Fine. But only because I consider myself a decent sort. One hint of trouble from any of you, and you can join them in a cell." "Thank you." you quickly reply >"Visitor for the monster." the guards raps out as he unlocks the gate leading to the cell block. >Unsurprisingly, he stays close behind you as you enter, another guard watching from nearby as you spot your old fling among the scant few cells. >Responding to your approach, the large trio forces themselves off the straw mat they were sleeping on. >"What's going on" the tigress demands in a deep gravel. "Why all the noise?" >Her sisters respond in kind, eyes scanning the room, stopping dead on you. >"Is that..." the snake inquires. >"I think he is. Can't believe he's still alive." her caprine sibling confirms. "Dirce? What do you think?" >The tiger doesn't respond, deep in contemplation as she examines you. >Tense moments go by before she finally speaks. >"It's been a long time, human. Why turn back up today of all days?" >"Uh..." Kimmy begins as she nervously scoots from behind you, her hobbled steps betraying the internal battle for control between she and her sister. "H-hi, mom..." >Grim recognition flashes across their faces. >"WH~Y did you bring THEM here?" Cilla bleats furiously. "Did you just want to remind us of even more of our mistakes?" >"Mom!" the two cry in tandem. "We had enough on our minds today without this, Human." the dominant triplet grumbles, "You shouldn't have brought them here." >The twins retreat to you, Kimmy burying her face into your chest as Mera constricts tightly around your arm. >Though they remain silent, you can feel them trembling with suppressed emotion as you stare back at their mothers. "These are our daughters, show some respect." you demand flatly. >"Respect?" the goat grunts back, "Until five minutes ago, I was at peace with this. Now, thanks to you, I have to die angry. And you want to talk about respect?" >"We haven't seen them in nearly twelve years. And now, years after we wrote you off for dead, you come parading up to us hours from our death. Forgive us if we're not exactly in the best mood." >Tension mounts as you stare each other down. >Even the guard backs up a bit, clearly uncomfortable being forced to witness this. "What about you, Ino?" you inquire, noticing the snake's attention drifting from one person to the next, "You've been quiet this whole time." >"Come here, girls." she coos out past a tired sigh. >With a final sniff, they untangle themselves from you, Kimmy's puffy eyes leaving a small wet stain on your shirt as she goes. >Approaching, they two press themselves against the bars before the guard intervenes. >"Paws off the bars, kid!" he barks, "Keep your distance." >The twins quickly comply, looking back angrily at the stallion. >His visage however, seems more sad and softened than the angry guard who entered. >Doing what they must, everyone tries to make due. >"Girls." she starts, letting it hang, uncertain of how to proceed. "I, we, are glad to see you." >"Speak for yourself, Ino." Cilla responds, earning a grunt from the tigress in kind. >"Stubborn to the end! Well we've got one last chance, and I'll say it if you two won't." she retorts with disgust. "Girls, we're glad to see you. And, we wish we could have known you better." >"Why weren't you? The real reason?" Mera demands pointedly. >"Because, well, we weren't ready for kids. We're not those types of people. So when your dad came, we gave you up and hoped for the best." >"Did you you ever try to visit? At all?" Kimmy asks next. >"No." Ino shakes her head. "We didn't know where you were, or if you were alive. >"Visits aren't something you can do with the law always behind you anyway." Dirce tells her. >"Made a rule to just not talk about it," claims Cilla, "Out of sight, out of mind. It's better that way." >As her siblings wallow in the doldrums, Ino tries to shake it off, intent to continue. >"As much as I wish I could call out my sisters. They're right. Kimmy, Mera, we would have been terrible mothers, and you're better off that we weren't there." >"You can't really mean that" one of the twins mumbles. >"Yes we can, you sappy brats." her mother bleats out. "We're in this cage for a reason. And you're damned lucky you didn't turn out just like us. That life ain't worth it." >"And you better keep it that way, or we'll haunt you from tartarus." the larger head growls out. >The lioness plops down, rolling over to face the wall. >"We're done talking about this now." she says, badly suppressing a sniff. "You should go." >Seeing her larger siblings both checked out, Ino turns a final time to her daughters. >"Take care of yourselves, "she asks pleadingly, voice dripping melancholy. "and don't live the life we did. Do that, and we'll always be proud of you." >With that, she meekly tucks in with her other heads, mentally preparing for the rest of the day. >Looking to the side, you see the guard beckoning you out. >Ushering your daughters with you, he relocks the gate before resuming his post. >As you try to leave, he calls back to you. >"Before you go," he begins, "I have a final piece of business with you." "What's that?" >"Since nobody else has done so, I need to know if you intent to claim the body. If not, we'll be throwing them in a convicts grave." >Anticipating their burst of emotion, you reach out, pulling your girls in close for comfort. "I would prefer to claim them, yes. What do I need to do." >The stallion simply pulls out a piece of parchment and slides it over. >"Just sign this, and provide a means to transport them." >Taking the slip, you read it over. >Everything looking in order, you take a quill from the table and scrawl your name before sliding it back. >"Alright," he tells you, stamping the page, "that's that. Transport?" "I have a cart out front. I'll just leave that there for you to use, alright?" >"Yep," he retorts, handing you your a copy to prove your status as next of kin, "It'll be out front waiting for you, but don't take too long to claim her." >Without another word, he goes back to his work as you pull the girls from the barracks. >Once outside, you push a the sparse contents of your cart to the back, preparing for the grim task ahead. >From a box of clothing, you pull out a long brown cowl, handing it over to your daughters. "Here. Might be better for you to wear this." >"Why?" your serpentine child inquires. "I get the impression there's a lot of hard feelings towards your mothers right now. It might be better for you to just keep your heads down till we leave." >The two sigh, but don't fight as the slide on the obscuring garment. >Looking themselves over, they seem rather unenthused about the ratty robe, but let it be as Mera hides herself behind her sister. "Alright, come on girls," you beckon as you head towards the inn to rejoin Henry, "nothing to do but wait now." - >Hours pass as the four of you sit, tension heavy in the air as time creeps by at an agonizing crawl. >Beside the twins, a stack of bowls slowly grows higher as they gorge themselves to cope with the stress. "So..." you begin, breaking the long silence, "how you girls feel now that you met them?" >Kimmy looks up sullenly at you as her sister peeks from under the robe. >Another internal debate takes place. >"In private, please?" Mera requests as they beckon you out. "Sorry Henry," you say as you follow your girls, "family stuff." >"Yep." he replies, not looking up from his pipe. "Do what you need to do." >In the partial cover of behind the tavern, the chimera trudges up a stack of lumber, taking a seat with you quickly doing the same. >They say nothing as Kimmy twiddles her paws. >Apprehensively, she slides towards you, inch by inch until she's shoulder to shoulder with you. >"Can you save them," Mera finally asks, "can you make them stop?" >The ground seems suddenly interesting as you try to think of how best to answer them. >Figuring that a sharp knife cuts clean, you opt to simply be honest. "No, girls. There's nothing I could possibly do, it's out of my hands." you admit. "I wish it weren't so, but it is." >Instead of the tears you expect, Kimmy leans against you as her sister coils up your arm. >"Promise us you'll take care of yourself." Mera demands. "Of course." >"She said promise." Kimmy adds. "I promise to take good care of myself so I'll be around for a long time." you grimly chuckle. "I'm gonna be stubborn about it. I refuse to go until I at least get to meet my great grandkids." >Even as a few tears trickle silently from Kimmy's eyes, the two give small, pained chuckles. >Letting them go at their own pace, the two nuzzle you lightly as you stroke their hair. >"I feel so numb..." Mera blurts out suddenly. >"Mmmhmm. Daddy, do you think mom loves us?" >Taking a deep breath, you turn to meet their waiting gazes. "I think there's something there, yes. It was stressful for them, you know? They were being harsh as a shield. I think, maybe if the situation were different, they would have tried more to reconnect." >"But they're bandits." Mera points out. "Can they really feel that way?" "Yes, they are. But bandits are people. Usually desperate, sometimes just plain bad people, always people you should do everything to avoid. But still people with complex feelings." >Seeing them avert their gaze, you wrap your arm around their shoulder, pulling them in tighter. "Look. When they said you were better off without them, and that they didn't want you living like them? That said a lot." >"What's it say, exactly?" "That they do care what happens to you girls, of course. Whatever they might have been thinking when you two were babies, it clearly started to weigh on them a lot at some point." >Despite their silence, you can feel the tension slowly ebb from their form as their grip becomes ever looser. >Sadly, the loud clanging of bells in the distance soon breaks you from your tender moment. >"Is that?" the girls trail off in unison. >Looking out from the alley, the number of people flooding the streets makes it readily obvious what's happening. "I believe so girls," you say, pulling away from them, "I'll be back as soon as I can." >"What? We're coming too!" Kimmy says, voice straddling a demanding growl and begging whimper. "Girls," you state sternly, "this is not something you need to see." >"That's not fair..." Mera mopes. >Sighing, you get back down to their level. "Look, I know you two are really upset, but I don't seeing this will help. Besides, there's a lot of people out there who are very angry at chimeras right now. >"So what should we do then?" Kimmy huffs, grabbing your arms. >Even Mera is giving you an uncharacteristically defiant look. "Just stay here with Henry, and keep your cloak on. As soon as I, well, collect your mother, we're leaving, so be ready to go." >The chimera stays stubbornly planted, staring you down with tears in her eyes as her claws dig into your flesh. >"Come on, Kimmy..." her sister beckons, biting lightly against their shirt. "we should just go in." >Snorting back her annoyance, the tigress follows the more dominant head's lead, stomping back indoors. >Sighing, you examine your arms, the fresh wounds standing out against a sea of small scars. >Tearing some fabric from the hem of your shirt, you quickly staunch the bleeding before you get back to business. >Following the crowd, you quickly reach the town square, where a large platform has been erected for the execution. >For once, towering over the crowd barely gets you a glance in the crowds excited state. >Even still, you opt to stay far back, fearful of frayed nerves devolving into xenophobic reprisal. >Within minutes, the trio appears. >Heavy ropes hobble their movement as they're herded up the stage to hisses and boos from the crowd, muzzles and a bit preventing any attempt at lashing back or chewing themselves free. >The guard captain begins to give a speech, beginning by detailing the crimes for which the trio has been found guilty. >However, his words are soon drowned out by the growing mob. >When this finally ends, a hook and which is attached to the ropes on their paws and pulled wound taut, lifting the trio up onto their hooves. >Uncertainty fills you as thoughts of how exactly one even would execute a chimera fill your mind. >These questions are soon answered however, as a unicorn brandishing a large spear marches on stage. >Taking a moment to speak with his captain, the stallion readies his weapon in a magic aura and approaches. >Wincing, you watch as the blade is plunged into their shared heart, the trio letting out their own distinct pained yells past their gags. >A jet of blood sprays from the wound as the pressure is released from their veins, quickly dropping to a rapid flow. >Harsh thrashing slowly devolves to weak struggles, then shivers, and finally simple spasms as one by one, their brains click off. >Ino is the last to go, the serpent clinging painfully to life, still wobbling in the air as her sisters leave her. >Some minutes later however, she too succumbs. >Sickened by the macabre display, you're relieved when you see a plain crate being lifted on stage, next to a familiar cart. >Taking that as your cue, you slip back around towards the barracks, hoping to be in and out as fast as possible. >Meeting the guards en route, you quickly pull the form from your shirt and offering it to the leader of the group. "Here to claim the body." you say without tact or ceremony, nervousness edging your voice. >"Huh? Prompt, aren't you?" he replies, looking it over. "Yeah, it's all yours." >The troops disperse as he hands you back the form, leaving you to your work. >Slinging the tact over your shoulder, you grab the handles of the cart and pull. >Despite the extreme addition to weight, you move to care with a bit of effort, heading back to the inn. >To your surprise, your group are waiting outside for you, ready to go. >Beckoning them over, you quickly begin helping helping Henry get the harness on when you hear the girls squeal. "Girls?" you yelp in surprise as you run over to them. "Everything alright?" >"Daddy it, it's leaking!" the larger sibling informs you, pointing to the back of the crate. >Pulling them into a hug, you give them a few seconds to compose themselves before you pull away with a small kiss on her forehead. "It'll be alright, sweetheart. Just stay strong, and we'll be home soon." >The two give you a look of determination, steeling themselves as you turn back. >Seeing that Henry has finished hooking himself up, you set out. - >As the evening creeps on, the four of you settle down, making camp for the night. >Seeing the girls have quickly went off to be alone on the edge of the camp, you ponder a way to try to cheer them up. >Looking over to the fire, you get an idea. "Hey girls," you say as you approach, "How you holding up?" >"Fine." They say, looking back at you. >Despite this, their eyes tell you the whole sad story, but you play along. "That's good girls. Because I was thinking maybe we could go hunting." >Despite their mood, they visibly perk up ever so slightly, their predatory nature excited at the prospect. >"I guess we could," Mera starts, "But we still have rations." "Eh, we've had nothing but dried meats and plant soup for almost a week. Something fresh could be just what we need right now. >Kimmy gives a small, sad smile as she offers her paw, letting you help her to her hooves. "Come on, I saw some good brush nearby. Probably plenty of good small game." >The walk is quiet for the first half before Mera finally pops the question. >"So, dad. What happens when we get home?" "Well... We're going to dig out those books on cultures, and we're going to give your mothers a proper send off. Something nice." You pause. "And dignified." >The answer seems to satisfy them, at least as well as they could be right now. >As you near your destination however, they break the silence once more. >"Daddy?" Kimmy begins this time. "While we're on the subject. Who's Damil?" >A small shiver rolls down your spine as you sigh. "It...it is about time I told you kids, isn't it?" >"Well, he's been there a few years, and you've never said anything." "Don't worry. After we get home, and handle things with your mothers, I'll sit all you girls down and explain." >"Promise?" Mera demands. "Promise." >"Thanks." Kimmy returns. "And dad? Sorry for clawing up your arms." "It was like you were my little kitten again." you laugh, much to her embarrassment. "No worries. Now, we got some critters to catch." ***Ariana Impregnation*** (Explicit, incest, inbreeding) Year 36 "Got your bag ready, sweetie?" >"Yeah!" she yips. "You sure you didn't forget anything? Clothes, toothbrush, some snacks and toys?" >"DAD! I'm not a puppy anymore!" she says with a flustered scowl. >She was right, of course. Even Firginia wasn't a little girl anymore. It seemed like just yesterday she was chasing squirrels and digging up worms. >And now, she was almost 12, and growing up far, far too fast. "I know. I'm just trying to look out for you." >Patting her on the shoulder, you beckoned her out the door. "Come on, your sister's waiting on us." >In the small clearing that was your yard, the tall goat satyr stood patiently, her own bag resting at her hooves. "Ariana." you call out softly. "We're ready." >Taking her possessions in hand, she turns with a gentle smile and nod, before silently setting out. >Almost immediately, however, she's stopped by a tug of her fur. >"Sis?" The small timberwolf girl begins. "Can I ride?" >The Ariana lets slip a small, bleating giggle as she takes the girl in hand and deposits her onto her shoulders. >"Just make sure you hold on tight." she reminds. >The path is long and peaceful, only the birds and wind breaking the silence along the rough worn trail. >Ariana, for her part, bears her sister without complaint, allowing the small plant hybrid to soak in the sun and air from her lofty perch. >You can't help but smile at the display, reminding you of everything you loved about being a parent. >Some half hour passes as you make it a few miles down the road, taking in the sights of rural life, until finally, you hit your destination. >A small cabin of log and stone sits in the shadow of a cliff face, surrounded by gardens and a single hill hollowed into a den and connecting to cellar storage in the home. >Giving a small knock, you hear a clatter from inside before the door is quickly yanked open. >"Yeah? Oh, hey dad!" she says, her demeanor softening as she gives you a one armed hug. "What's goin' on?" "I'm just here to drop off Firginia." >She looks at you a little puzzled, prompting you to explain. "I told Cottonball a few days ago. She said you two wouldn't mind keeping an eye on her for a couple of days." >"She...never told me to expect company. Come inside and tell me what's up." she insists. >Nodding, you take a seat near the hearth as Firginia drops her bag and runs out to play. >Ariana opts to simply stick her head through the doorway rather than crawl into the cabin. >"So tell me what all this is about, then?" "Ariana and I were going out for a bit, and we just needed someone to watch Firginia for a bit. Just till tomorrow." >"Yeah. We can do that. Though I wish A CERTAIN BUNNY had told me about this." she says with a subtle, lingering growl. "So, what are you and Arie going off to do?" >You choke slightly on the question. While your relationship was an open secret in the family, it was never easy to vocalize. >Thankfully, you didn't have to. >"We're...going to the cabin to spend time together....personal time." Ariana manages to mumble out, sparing you. >"Oh...OH! Yeah, uh. That's cool. Glad you and dad are happy. He deserves it. And you..." the flustered manticore stammers out. >Lenora begins tapping her fingers as a tense awkwardness falls over the room. >Sparing your daughter from having to dwell on the subject, you opt to break the quiet. "So how've things been with you and Cottonball anyway." >"Huh? Oh, yeah. They've been fine, I guess." "You guess?" you inquire. "Something wrong sweetheart?" >"Nah, I'm just on the couch right now. Seems she has a very different opinion than me on hunting normal rabbits." "Oh, this again." you say with a chuckle. >"You'd think after almost 10 years, you two would learn to agree to disagree." the giantess interjects. >"You'd think! They're everywhere and they're easy prey! I'm not the one being stubborn here!" the cat huffs. "Well, she didn't tell you about your babysitting job, so I think it's safe to say you're off the couch this time." >"Hey! Sorry sorry sorry!" a new voice speaks up, running from the back, Firginia in tow. "Sorry I missed you, I was busy in the garden." "Hey Cottonball, we were just talking about you." you claim as you stand. >"All good I hope, Mr. Anon." "Absolutely. And I've told you, you don't need to call me Mister. I basically raised you, you're family." you assure the rabbit satyr as you mess her hair. >"I know." she replies, ignoring your teasing. "Will you two be staying for a while?" "Afraid not, sweetie. We kinda wanted to get up to the cabin as soon as possible. But how about tomorrow?" >Cottonball perks up at the idea. >"That sounds nice. I could cook up a nice stew for everyone. Maybe we could bring Kimmy and Mera if Lenora feels like going to get them?" she suggests. >"Eh. That's a long walk. You know how Mera hates being dragged out on short notice, assuming they're not out hunting anyway." "I'm looking forward to it either way." You admit to a nod of affirmation from Ariana. "Firginia, you mind your sister and aunt Cottonball while I'm gone." >"Yes sir." she says with a curt nod. "Lenora...keep being my cute little Sushi." >"DAD! I really hate that nickname!" she whines to everyones amusement. "And Cottonball, keep these two trouble makers under control while I'm gone, alright." >"Can do!" she says with a little mock salute. >Smiling, you pull the three girls into a tight hug. "Love you girls, we'll be back tomorrow." >As the two of you leave, you can hear your Lenora still muttering about her nickname behind you. >Doubling back nearer to your own home, the rough trod path is as quiet and peaceful as always. >Stopping for a moment, you admire the view. >The gentle winds sweeping down from the mountains flow through the oceans of grass and spattering of lakes in the valley, rolling them gently in its currents. >Even after all the years you've lived here, it never gets old. >"It's very pretty, isn't it, dad?" "It is..." you begin, gently motioning her to kneel. "But not nearly as pretty as you." >She smiles before planting a small kiss on your lips, her golden eyes glinting from behind her long bangs. >"Are you ready to go up?" she asks, offering her claw. >You nod, having barely realized how near to the trail you were. "Yes, sweetie." you say, taking a deep breath to steel your nerves. "Just...be careful." >Giggling, she quickly hoists you into the air, holding you tight as she steps onto the craggy mountain trail. >Huge swathes of the winding path is completely skipped as the arimaspi girl takes long steps up the mountain, her caprine agility allowing her to near effortlessly walk up impossible angles. >No matter how many times you'd seen Ariana and Kimmy do it, the mechanics of the 89 degree tippy hoof walk still baffled you. >In all, it takes less than fifteen minutes for Ariana to make the climb. >Soon, the sound of rushing water fills your ears as Ariana comes to a stop. >"We're here" she announces as she gently lowers you to the ground. "Thank you, sweetheart." you say, taking a deep breath of mountain air. "Why don't you relax now, and I'll start setting up." >The towering goat nods politely before going to do her own thing. >A quick glance around shows nothing has really changed. A small, open air cabin next to a small waterfall, a small clearing, and a garden of wild plants tucked in the side. >It was a wonderful place to take the girls camping when they were little. >But since they began moving out, you've only really been coming up here once every few months for maintenance. >A pang of bittersweet longing strikes your heart. Your girls are all grown up now... >Closing your eyes, you take a deep breath in an attempt to shake off the melancholy and return to the task at hand. >Dropping both of your bags by the entrance, you take a stick in hand and begin a quick sweep of the building, poking at every dark corner to ensure no animals have tried to make it their home. >Nothing, not even the boxes of hardtack and jarred preserves are disturbed. >Satisfied, you check one of the cabinets, pulling out an enormous spare blanket tailored to Ariana's size. >Shaking the dust out, you throw the mass of cloth over a rope by the shacks missing wall, forming a makeshift cloth door for the cabin. >After piling some wood into the hearth and ensuring the lanterns have ample oil, you lay out your bedrolls and step out. >In the small clearing, you see Ariana sitting under a lone tree, staring into the distance. >Approaching slowly, another old memory catches your eye. >On the base of the tree is an old, now heavily grown over carving of a heart, with "daddy" carved in the center. >You smile to yourself. Kimmy, Lenora, even Mera had teased her so much over it. >At the time, you probably figured it was just a phase. >But now? The much later addition of a "+ Arie" stands as an enduring testament to the contrary. >As you come down from your reverie, you notice Ariana watching you with a coy smile. >"Do you have something on your mind, dad?" she asks knowingly. "Yeah, a lot of things." >"Me too." she reveals, offering her claw to help you into her lap. >Your admissions hang in the air as you settle in, watching the rolling sea of grass in the valley below. >For what seems like an eternity, you mull over your words before finally breaking the silence. "Ariana? I... I just want you to know we don't have to go through with this if you don't want." you state, letting your words sink in for a moment. "I don't want you to go into this feeling like you're obligated, that I'm expecting it of you, or like you're being coerced. It's a lifetime commitment...and I want to make sure you're ready for that." >The giantess sits quietly for an agonizing length of time, still save for the soft rumble of her breathing. >Tension builds in your shoulders as you wait. >"Dad?" she begins, making you jump slightly. "I've wanted this since I was a little girl. To be a mom, to be with you." >Stress drains off your shoulders like the falls behind you. >"I understand completely that our relationship is not normal, and that many people outside would judge us. But that doesn't bother me if it doesn't bother you." >There is a tense pause, as it dawns that her statement wasn't rhetorical. "Baby girl, if I let stuff like THAT bother me, we wouldn't have Firginia and Lenora around, would we?" >The two of you share a much needed chuckle, before Ariana shifts back to her serious tone. >"That's very true. I just need you to understand that you're not forcing me into anything. But... thank you for caring." she says adoringly, pulling you into a deep hug against her chest. >Caressing her hands, you draw a blank on how to respond. >Deciding not to risk ruining the moment, you relax into the satyrs bosom, simply enjoying the view with her. - >The next few hours are spent talking, taking in the view, and simply enjoying each others touch and company. >Most of it revolves around her literary aspirations. Several ideas for new short stories, and even a few novellas are proposed, discussed, tweaked and approved or discarded. >Much of it peppered with bashful and brief discussions of the future. >All too soon, the sun begins to set, tinting the sky a brilliant pink. "Alright, Arie. It's getting late. What do you say we get some food in us?" >"I'd like that." she says with a nod. >Sliding from her lap, your bones pop loudly in protest as you stand. >While you start the hearth, Ariana dutifully collects some extra ingredients from the makeshift garden in the back to combine with those few you brought, and in no time, the two of you have a pot of bubbling soup. >Taking a taste, you deem it done and carefully move the heavy pot off the coals. >Both of you ladle sizable helpings for yourselves and dig in. >It's hearty and filling, but simple. Not that either of you really notice. A consequence of your isolation being that your family's diet swung heavy on the meat and potatoes side. >Smiling, you recall the biggest complaint of trips to town. "The food is over seasoned!" >"Dad?" your daughter asks, breaking your reminiscing. "Yes Arie?" >"I had something important I needed to ask." she admits, voice tinged with trepidation. "Anything. You know you can ask me anything." >"Earlier, when you were asking if I really wanted this...." she pauses. "Are you having second thoughts, sweetie?" you ask sadly. "It's okay if you are." >"No no, it's not that at all. It's...are you sure YOU'RE up for this? I don't want you to work yourself to death taking just because I was selfish." she chokes out, hiding her face. "Sweetie..." you say as you approach, embracing her side. "I know I'm not as young as I used to be, but I'm still a long ways from having a foot in the grave. I'll be with you for a long time yet." "Being a dad was the best thing I've ever done. And I'd like to do it again." >"But it's still a lot of work, dad. Are you sure?" she asks with a sniffle. "It is more work than you can imagine, sweetheart. But this time, I won't be doing it alone." >Ariana's crying stops, now replaced with a happy grin as she pulls you into another tight hug. "TOO ROUGH, ARIE!" you cough out. >Her grip goes slack as you're freed. >"Sorry daddy. I got excited." she admits bashfully. >Ariana quickly finishes her soup before excusing herself. >You're in no rush, and slowly finish yours as well before stepping out. >In the clearing, you see your daughter's towering form slowly undressing, tossing her clothes haphazardly across the rocky flats. >She shapely and well built, hints of fat clinging to tone musculature, reflecting the duality of her healthy lifestyle, and the sedentary work of literature. >Stretching her limbs, she wades into the shallow crater dug by the tiny waterfall. >Taking a brief moment to light a lantern by the entrance, you head out to join her, dropping your clothes in a pile with hers. >Not feeling up for a proper swim at this hour, you stick to the shallows, washing the sweat and grime from your form while watching. >Ariana moves herself rhythmically as she bathes, her own adaptation of the seductive arimaspi belly dances her mother taught her when she became a woman. >The vibrant reds and oranges of the dying day refract through the cascading water, scattering across her dusky skin. >Her belly and hips sway as she cups her breasts as she performs for you. >Yet, at the same time, she endlessly uses her flowing hair and her short tail to provide the faintest hints of modesty, leaving just enough to the imagination to entice one to keep watching. >For several minutes her dance continues, building your lust ever higher, until the last glimmer of sunlight is snuffed in the distance. >Though somewhat disappointed, eagerness takes hold as you see her walking your way in the gloom. >"Are you ready, dad?" she asks, offering you her dripping hand. "As ready as someone could be." you respond truthfully. >This wouldn't be the first time the two of you were intimate, but this would be different. >Making your way to a particularly smooth, flat patch of rock, you guide Ariana to sit down. >Reaching out, you brush her hair from her face and meet the gaze of her trio of caprine eyes unobstructed. "This is it, Ariana. If we do this, there's no going back. So I have to ask a final time, not as your father, but as the man ready to start a family with you. Are you sure you want to go through with this?" >Your question is answered with a big kiss, which you gladly return. >Slowly, you slide down peppering her neck with kisses. >Groping, squeezing and twisting at her chest, the massive girl bends readily to your will. >Working your way down her collarbone and across her prodigious bust, you pop one her dark brown nipples into your mouth, tweaking the other teat in kind as she shudders under your ministrations. >You pull off with a small pop, drawing a moan from her. "Lay down, Ariana." you order, to which she happily complies. >Lining yourself to her entrance, you slide in with little resistance, her hot, slick insides loosely hugging your length. >Gently pinching her clit between your fingers, you begin thrusting, her relaxed state allowing her body to shift slightly with your efforts. >Her breasts roll gently in with her body, her clit twitching as you tease and tug it, drawing small, satisfied sighs from her lips. >Your pace steadily rises as your worries melt away. >The future promises to be hectic. But you can enjoy the present moment. >Ariana's small sighs soon graduate to full, breathy moans as you mercilessly manipulate her tender love button. >Each light tug or twist forcing her body to squeeze your shaft for all it's worth, and to buck her hips up into yours as her claws dig into the nearby soil. >Her breasts roll rapidly, summer starlight dancing across the water and sweat dotting both of your bodies as the sounds of her horns and hooves clacking against stone joins the gentle mix of sounds. >With a few final thrusts lacking any rhythm, you peak. >Pleasure rocks your body like lightning as the lust and desire of two weeks of abstinence spent preparing for this moment empties itself all at once. >Glob after glob of your seed evacuates your swollen sack, plastering itself within Ariana's fertile womb. >With a deep breath, you come down, knowing your job isn't done. >Pistoning your softening shaft once more, you focus on your clitoral stimulation, intent on bringing the edged giantess to climax while you can. >Though you must power uncomfortably through your refractory, you soon push her over, her body gripping you tightly, attempting to milk the last remnants of semen from your length. >Both of you stop to take a breather as you separate yourself from your young lover. >Your heart flutters as you watch her, already regarding her belly with excitement. >Moving to her front, you plant a small kiss on her lips. "I love you, Ariana." you say. >"I love you too, daddy." >Basking in the afterglow, the two of you opt to sit once more beneath your tree, still filthy with your release, and watch the stars together. ***Artificial Insemination*** (Semi-Explicit) Year 36 >The small crowd of satyrs grind to a stop as they crest the hill. >In the distance, Sweet Apple Acres sits like a shining beacon. >Reinvigorated the girls grip the pull bars of the huge wagon and tug, their 50 mile march a mere stone's throw from its end. >As soon as the girls pull their cart into the farm, they're instantly swarmed by apple satyrs. >Every time they came, there seemed to be more of them. >Lenora thought her family was big. But the Apples seemed intent on churning out as many kids as their bodies allowed. >Shaking the thought away, she notices Mera already having a chat with Mr. Apple as several young colts and fillies empty the wagon, appraising each item before he hands Kimmy a bag of bits. >He made decent money flipping them, she guessed. Saved them from being stuck in a noisy town at least. >As the assorted produce, salted meats and furs are carried off, she pulls the chimeras aside. >"Hey, Kimmy, Mera? I'm gonna go do that thing. You two go on ahead and start buying supplies. Me and Cotton will catch up." >The two's faces light up as they throw themselves against their sister in a tight hug. >"I'm sooo happy for you!" the snake girl rasps out, coiling herself around Lenora's paw. >"Me too! Good luck!" >"Yeah yeah." the manticore says with a blush. "Thanks...Cottonball!" she bellows out, punctuating with a whistle. "Come!" >The bunny satyr's ear perk up as she quickly bounds her way to her girlfriend. >"Yes ma'am?" the smaller girls asks. >Lenora places a paw on the smaller girls shoulder, more for her own comfort than the bunny's. >"It..it's time. Come on." >The satyrs distantly follow Mr. Apple, waiting for a moment when he's decently alone. >Their moment comes as he takes an armful of newly bought pelts to their tanning shed. >"Mr. Apple." Lenora calls out. "I need to talk to you." >"Hmm? Oh, hello Lenora, Cottonball." the older man begins, not slowing his work. "Glad you found the time to say hello. How's your father? He usually comes out with you guys." >"He's doing pretty well." she pauses, unsure of how to skirt around the topic of he and Ariana. "Just there were some repairs he needed to do at home." >"Ah. Can't be easy homesteadin' way out there I reckon'. Either way, ya'll girls make sure he takes care of himself, huh? And tell him to visit his buddy soon." >"Will do. By the way, I..I needed to ask you a favor." the manticore barely chokes out. >He slows his work, turning his attention to them out of politeness. >"Sure girls. What's on your mind?" >"Well, I needed you to give me a...what I mean is that..." she squirms in place, unable to speak. >Noticing her distress, Cottonball steps up to the plate. >"Mr. Apple. Lenora and I have decided that is time for she and I to start our own family." she begins with practiced words. >The man sweats and fidgets slightly like the feline satyr before him, suspecting what is to come. >"However, as we both lack the necessary equipment, we require a donor. After much discussion, and with our patriarchs blessing, we have decided that we would like for you to be that donor." >Lenora looks down, her face as red as her hair, the older human carrying a similar blush with far more dignity. >"Girls, I'm...I'm honored that you'd pick me, but I don't know if this is really for me." >"Sir." the bunny begins. "At the risk of sounding rude, it seems to me you enjoy bringing children into the world. We would not expect you to support nor have a relationship with the child if you did not wish to do so." >The man rubs his neck, embarrassed by the whole ordeal. >"I'll think it over, and have a talk with the family. I'll try to have you an answer before you girls head out in the morning." >"Thank you sir!" Cottonball chirps, wrapping the man in a hug. "That's more than we could ask for." >The rabbit satyr turns to leave, tugging her lover along behind her by the wing as they head out to rejoin their sisters. - >Night comes and goes as the girls spend their earnings on the few things they can't provide for themselves such as salt for preservation, lamp oil, glass containers and metal tools. >Through it all, the gaggle of young girls sleep restlessly, their nerves shot as they await when they'll get their answer. >As the sun begins to crest the horizon, painting the sky a brilliant gold streaked purple, the barn door creaks open. >All four girls bolt up from the hay loft at the sound of their guest. >"Girls?" he calls out. >Lenora considers ducking down into the pile of hay, waiting it out. >Cottonball, however, is decidedly less of a ball of nerves. >"Up here, Mr. Apple!" she calls, already climbing her way down. >Swallowing hard, Lenora follows suit, along with the chimera twins. >"Girls! I'm glad you're still here." he exclaims as they crowd him. "I've discussed it with the family and-" >"Hold up!" Lenora cries. "Kimmy, Mera? Privacy." >"Aww, but this is exciting!" the more energetic goat-tiger whines. >"Now, sister." her serpent tail hisses out as she exerts her will, forcing Kimmy to march against her will. "Show some respect." >The door soon creaks shut, leaving just the three of them. >"As I was saying..." Mr. Apple says after clearing his throat. "We discussed it, and its been decided that I should take you up on your offer. No sense not sewing fertile fields, after all." >Lenora visibly cringes as the joke, but says nothing. >"For the record though, I know I'm just a means to an end here, but I would like to at least know them, at least as my kids." >Cottonball quickly nods. >"You've always been good to us, so I see no reason not to allow it." >Lenora follows the lead of the more personable bunny, and nods in turn. >"Well good. So when and how is this going to work?" >"Now's fine!" the bat winged satyr yelps out. >Mr. Apple laughs as he begins undoing his pants. >"If you say so. Which one of you? Maybe both?" >Cottonball shakes her head. >"We decided Lenora should go first, since she would have fewer children, making the task easier for us as first time parents." >"Hmm. Smart girls. So does that mean you'd want me to help out again later?" >"Yes sir, if things go well. It would be better if they all shared a father." she explains with a polite bow. >"Well alrighty then. Lenora, if'n you'd like to lay down we can-" he begins as he turns to her, only to be greeted by an extremely red faced lioness holding out a small glass jar. >"Not happening that way." she says bluntly. Just do it in the jar." >"What?" he mumbles with shock as he takes the small container. >"I just...don't want it that way." she grumbles, worrying if he was just excited over the prospect of sleeping with them. >She beats the thought down, however. >Mr. Apple had been good to her family since she was a little girl. "No no, I don't mind at all. Shouldn't be surprised, lesbians an' all. I don't suppose ya'll could at least give me somethin' to think about then, just to make it quicker." >As always, when matters of outside socialization are involved, Lenora looks to her little bunny for guidance. >"Couldn't hurt, with all you're doing for us." she says with a shrug before turning around and bending over, exposing her tight holes to the man. >With a deep breath, Lenora pulls off her shirt, giving him a full view of her full breasts. >"Fine, but no touching." >For several minutes, the man works at himself as Lenora looks anywhere but forward. >Eventually, she hears him grunt as he finishes up, milking his member into the jar. >Letting out a breath she didn't realize she was holding, she throws her shirt back on, as Cottonball lets down her skirt. >"Ah hope that'll do ya, then." he says, offering the jar back to the girls. "And if you need me to help again, just ask." >With that, he leaves them in peace. >A syringe, a length of rubber tubing and half an hour later, the group of satyrs are pushing their wagon out Sweet Apple Acres to a small sea of children waving as a deep warmth burns in Lenora's womb. ***Ariana Preg Sex*** (Explicit, Incest) Year 36 "Aren't you forgetting something, little missy?" you ask, causing the small timberwolf's hand freezes over the knob. >"But dad! That thing looks so dumb!" >Chuckling as you approach, you drape the wool and leather slicker over the tween's shoulders. "Be that as it may, it's still autumn and it's still looking like rain. So either you wear your rain coat, or you don't visit your sisters." >With a sigh, Firginia puts the coat on before taking the bucket hat from you. >She's not wrong, it looks kinda goofy. >"Can I go now?" "Do you have your knife?" >She quickly pats her side, revealing the hilt of a standard hunting knife. An invaluable tool in the far flung wilds. >"Always. Just in case." "That's my girl." you begin as you bring her into a hug. "Alright. Have fun, and tell Kimmy and Mera that I said hi." >Nodding, the timberwolf is quickly out the door. >"Bye dad, thanks dad!" she calls out with a backwards wave. "Don't play around and just go strait there, sweetie! Better just to avoid the rain if you can!" >"Yeah!" she casually shouts back. >You watch her for a while as she runs free. Until her form disappears in the browning grasses and rolling hills. >For a moment longer, you stare out at nothing, enjoying the feeling of crisp wind across your skin as thunder rumbles faintly in the distance. >Pushing yourself from the door frame, you decide to take advantage of the day of quiet. >Making your way into the living area at the heart of the house, you find your daughter Ariana laying on a large, makeshift beanbag chair, bundled in heavy blankets by the hearth. "Still having chills, sweetheart?" >"Yes." The giantess responds with chattering teeth. "Could you please put on some more tea, dad?" >Giving a curt nod, you ladle clean water into a kettle before looking over your options. >From several nearby bags of dried plants, you pick one of her favorites, and toss a handful of the mixture into the water before hanging the kettle over the bed of burning coals. >Crossing the room, you pull the shivering arimaspi into a hug. >While unwilling to unbundle herself to return it, she leans into you, eager for your touch. >"Thanks daddy." she mumbles. "I hate to be a burden, but could you put some food on too?" "Sure thing, sweet heart. What would you like?" >"Meat." she almost demands uncharacteristically. "The baby wants meat." >Looking down to her swelling stomach, the product of your incestuous union, you smile, giving her belly a gentle rub. "Then meat it is." >Making your way down, you're soon rummaging through your meat storage. >Also known as your basement, where you pile up ice whenever it's cold to keep the temperature down. >Salted, dried, jarred and canned. Stored ice and the occasional frost magic charm. >In a world still in its Renaissance era, you've had to make due. >Selecting several pounds of plain, dehydrated bear flesh, you head back up, grabbing picking up a bag of vegetables in the kitchen along your way. >Several minutes later, you've got a hearty stew on to boil. >Pouring a cup of piping tea and setting the kettle off to the brick on the side of the hearth, you make your way back to the large satyr. >On turning around however, you find that she's since thrown off all the covers. "Feeling any better?" >"A little bit." she nods. "I'm not cold at least." "Still want your tea?" >"No sir." she says apologetically. "At least not right now." "No worries, sweetheart." you assure her as you set the cup on a nearby table. "Your hormones are just acting up." >She nods briefly before clearing her voice. >"Speaking of, I'm feeling a little... needy." "Oh, the things a father has to do." you joke, drawing a smile from the satyr. "Want anything special, sweetie?" >"No sir." the bashful goat girl states. "I just...need some attention." "Let me grab some things, then." you say, leaving her to undress herself. >Shortly after, you return with a towel, a bucket of clean water and a jar of balm. >Ariana lifts her legs, letting you place the towel before you cast aside your own clothes. >The triclopes meets your gaze over her swollen midsection as you take your place between her legs. >But you're not ready to start just yet. >Despite her pregnancy urges driving most notions of foreplay from her mind, you've found it better to still try to relax her a bit before making love. >Opening the balm, a simple mix of cocoa butter and olive and coconut oils, you scoop a large glob into your hand and press it into her belly. >A faint hum escapes her lips as you slowly work the cream in. >Ariana relaxes, muscles slowly losing tension as you polish her stomach to a sheen. >Your daughter suddenly jumps, surprising you. >"Oh! Do you feel her kicking?" >Silently, you carefully press your hands into her baby bump, waiting. >Stillness for several seconds. >Eventually, a thump pushes your hand back with remarkable force. "Wow! Strong little thing, isn't she?" you laugh. >"I think she can just feel how anxious mommy is." "Point taken." >Wiping your hands off, you reach down between Ariana's legs, spreading her sex. >Her hefty clit twitches in excitement as you look over her slit, causing your cock to harden in turn. >Using a single finger, you prod and tease the dripping hole, deepening your daughter's breathing ever so slightly. >Gently pushing a hole into the wet hole, her delicate flesh gives way to the invading digit. >She's remarkably tight, despite her size. >Ariana lets out small, bleating grunts as your work at her, your finger buried to the knuckle. >Not quite deep enough to touch her g-spot but enough that her body is responding, gently bucking into your hand, eager for you to continue. >You slowly finger fuck her, fast and slow, gentle and rough, teasing her and bringing a blush to her dusky face. >Pulling out, you can feel her squeeze, attempting to hold your finger inside as a few drops of feminine need stain the towel below. >"I'm ready." she rasps out. "Please." >Nodding, you take a moment to coat your shaft in her lubrication before lining yourself to the needy goat's slit and giving a push. >Ariana's cunt is soft, warm and accommodating. >Despite this she's pleasantly snug, her muscles trying to draw your member ever deeper. >Quickly working your way in, only your shared breathy moans and the crackling fire breaking the stillness. >Hilting yourself, you know from experience that you're well positioned to assault her most sensitive depths. >Gently gripping her thighs, you prepare yourself to take her, to remind your little girl just how much of a woman she is. "Ready, Arie?" >"YeAAHH!" she shrieks, being cut off as you slam your cock roughly against her g-spot. >The goat girl grunts and moans as you force yourself against the delicate flesh like a battering ram, her vaginal muscles now wringing at your shaft. >Her lust drips down your rod, tickling faintly as it rolls down your balls. >Pulling back, you give her another hard thrust, drawing another stifled moan from her throat as her first orgasm gently rocks her ponderous form, her pregnancy reducing her to a hair trigger. >You give a second thrust, and a third. >Soon, you've worked up a good rhythm, each thrust slowly expanding the small wet circle on the towel beneath you. >Ariana groans and bleats as you work, multiple orgasms rocking her as she teases milk from her ample breasts in pearly droplets. >Her tight squeezing and copious moisture steadily grind down your resistance, and with a deep breath you blow your load deep into your daughter's womb in hard, ball clenching spurts. >Your orgasm is strong and harsh. For a moment, you feel your age catch up to you as you sag forward to catch your breath. >For a few moments, you stare blankly at her gravid belly, not actually thinking about anything except the fall from your orgasmic high. >Regaining your senses, you lean in to kiss and rub her life filled midsection, lavishing it with the attention it deserves. >Shortly after, Ariana's clawed hand finds its way to you, gently running down your cheek. >The mild role reversal shocks you from your reverie. >For a brief moment, you indulge her, allowing your daughter to enjoy your weakness and almost mommy you. >Pulling back, you plant your hands once more firmly into her thighs, and begin pumping again. >The effect is immediate as her body begins to tense and squirm once more. >Thick rivulets of feminine release trail down your shared sexes as you work. >Your renewed, vigorous ministrations pull her once more into a series of repeating mini orgasms. >Her squeezing only tightens as your progress, her repeated orgasms leaving her sensitive, overstimulated, raw. >Ariana dances the line between pain and pleasure as her increasingly inflamed slit saps your energy with growing warmth. >It isn't long before you're at your peak once more. >With a final thrust, you hilt yourself, filling her young cunt with your seed as the giantess enjoys a screaming, or rather, a roaring orgasm of her own. >You have no idea how long you spent eyes closed, panting. But you don't stop until a loud crack grabs your attention as the storm outside finally begins. >With a slight groan, you pull yourself free of her tight passage in a single motion, freeing a small drips your mixed fluids. "So..." you begin. "Did you feel better now, sweetie?" >"Mmhm. I feel a lot calmer now. And so does she." she tells you, rubbing her belly. "Thank you, daddy." "No problem, Arie." you say, grabbing a wash cloth and gently cleaning her sex before taking the towel. "I'm gonna go clean up and finish dinner. Would you like to sit on the porch and watch the rain with me after?" >"Yes sir!" she says with a little excitement. "But only if we can cuddle." "Wouldn't have it any other way, sweetheart." ***Red Cypress*** Year 37 >"Daddy, please!" the larger girl pleads. >"For us, sir?" her twin echoes. >You can only grumble in response. This wasn't what you thought you'd be doing today. >Not only had Lenora surprised you by dropping her son Oresus off so she and Cottonball could have a personal day, but now you've got your eldest begging your approval for their would be boyfriend. >A boy you had not even met nor heard of before. All on top of everything else you needed to do. >"You gave Lenora and Cottonball your blessing, daddy. What's the difference?" you hear Ariana chime in from behind you. "The difference is that I know ol' Apple." you say with a pause. "And thought this was about dating, not volunteering to be single mothers." >"It's not, dad! Promise!" Mera assures you. "Stuff like that is so far in the future we haven't even considered it." "Good. You-" >Before you can launch into a tangent, Ariana interrupts by laying your grandson in your arms. >Calmness overcomes you as you stare into the baby's pale green eyes, a gift from his father. Contrasting the fuzzy head of deep red hair he inherited from Lenora. >Offering the infant a finger, he wraps his tiny paws around the digit, squeezing with impressive force. "Barely two months old, and you've already got a hell of a grip, don't you, sport?" >"Daddy?" Ariana starts, breaking your focus from the infant. "I know you're just trying to look out for everyone, and we all appreciate it." >The twins give genuine nods in response. >"But Kimmy and Mera are adults just like Lenora and I. Please put some trust in their judgment." >As you begin rolling the thought around your head, Oresus begins crying for food, prompting your daughter to take the child from your arms to offer him a bottle. >It's true, you're probably being overbearing. If anything, the twins deserve more trust than the others by virtue of being the eldest. >Especially your ever rational little Mera. >It's just that you'd never met him before. "You girls really like this...Cypress boy?" >"Yes sir." they speak in unison. "Tell you what. I gotta go check the game traps tomorrow. How about I bring him with me and get to know him? If I think he's half decent, I won't fight it." >The chimera satyrs bound to you, Kimmy wrapping her paws around you in a tight hug as Mera constricts your arm in an imitation of the same. >"Thank you, dad." the snake coos out. >"Yeah, thanks daddy!" her twin repeats. >The three of you hug it out for another moment before you free yourselves from one another. "So...I hope you two are sticking around for lunch at least." you ask as you begin to head towards the kitchen. >"Absolutely!" Kimmy calls out, before turning to Ariana, mouthing a silent "thank you". >Ariana returns a simple smile. - >"Just relax, Red. It'll be fine." >"Is this really necessary, girls?" >"Yes." Mera tells him bluntly. >"Can't we just date without your dad's permission?" the buck asks. >He receives a sharp punch to the ribs for the question. >"Oww! What was that for, Kimmy?" he asks with a hiss. >"I dunno, Cypress. Can you just drop all your precious deer traditions and stuff if we didn't like it?" >"What Kimmy means, in her way, is that our family is very close knit, because we've always had to stick together." Mera explains. >"Then what should I do to impress him then?" he asks with a resigned sigh. >"The old man's just protective of his little girls" Kimmy teases. "Just be polite, but don't be afraid to speak up either. Dad doesn't really warm as much as he melts like butter." - >Taking a deep breath, you knock on the door to the girls lodge. A deep, hard knock that could wake the dead. >Within seconds, the heavy deadbolt can be heard griding from behind as your girls throw open the door, greeting you with a hug. >You gladly return it, but your eyes are drawn inside, to where a young, almost skittish looking deer boy stands. >"Well, dad? Don't just stand there, come inside!" Kimmy encourages as the two of them pull you in towards the deer. >"Dad? This is Red Cypress." Mera announces. "Cypress, this is our father." >For several tense moments, you stare the deer down, who looks for all intents and purposes like he's caught in some headlights. >Eventually, you offer you hand, maintaining eye contact, visually daring him to to offer his hoof. >He hesitates for a moment, before finally obliging. >"Red Cypress, sir. Pleasure to meet you." he informs you, already avoiding looking you in the eyes. "Anon Y. Mous" you grunt, squeezing his hoof. >Flicking your gaze to the side, you see the girls fidgeting, trying to appear cheerful. >For their sake, you move things along. "Come on then. We've got a long day ahead of us." >The deer quickly levitates an a large set of saddle bags before turning back to you. >"Please lead the way." >The girls see the two of you out, shouting for the two of you to play nice. >Several minutes pass in silence as you walk, before finally, your companion breaks the silence. >"So, uhh, Anon?" "That's Mr.Mous to you, Red." you quickly correct him. >The cervid visibly flinches, but persists nonetheless. >"Mr. Mous. Where exactly are we going?" >You point to a distant hill. Its crown of trees barely visible from here. "There's a copse of trees next to the river north-northeast of here with a small pond in its center. Good place for fish, and plenty of wild plants to boot." >"Of course. A...Mr.Mous." "Hope you've got a strong back, Red." >"Strong enough, Mr.Mous." "We'll see." >Several more minutes pass in silence as you make your way to the secluded woods. >As you near it, you decide to break the silence this time. "So tell me how you meet my girls, Red." You demand bluntly. >Taken aback by the suddenness, the deer stutters for a moment before he answers. >"I was in the forest gathering herbs for my village, when they nearly pounced me, thinking I was some animal. We started trading knowledge about current good spots for herbs and game. It just went from there." "You know herbs?" >"Yes sir. I'm not much of an alchemist, but I know almost every type of plant that grows in the area inside and out." "Useful." you admitted. "Show me." >He complies, using his knowledge and powerful nose to your advantage. >Soon, your packs are soon filled with all manner of berries, roots, herbs and fungi. - "I'll admit, boy, you're not too bad. Save me a couple of hours, easy." you tell him with a faint smile. >"So are you and I alright then?" "Not even close. You're not useless, but that doesn't mean I like you." >"Oh come now! For a buck who's mated animals, you're being quite unreasonable, don't you think?" >In an instant, you've taken one of his antlers in hand, using it as leverage to wrench his head towards the ground. "Listen here Bambi. I'm not perfect, but I'm going to do everything I can to take care of my kids. They're all I've got in the world. All I've really had in nearly 20 years...If you were a dad, you'd understand." >Releasing his horn with a light shove, Cypress stumbles back a bit, spilling some of the harvest. "In the future, you should learn when to just hold your tongue." You state, feeling more tired than annoyed. "Clean the mess up and come on. We're almost done." >Red levitates up what he can from the forest floor before running to catch up. >If the general silence had been awkward before, the tension was now suffocating. >You try your best to ignore it, focusing on pulling your fish traps from the pond. >But it does little to quell your worries. >It's probably just infatuation, but as isolated as you are, they rarely get the chance to so much as see new people. >Even the nearest deer village is an almost 10 mile trip through dense underbrush. >If you disapprove, the girls would almost certainly drop him, but that doesn't mean they wouldn't resent it. It could be years before they get another chance to even try. >And...maybe the damn kids is right. Maybe you're just being harsh. The mountain man lifestyle surely isn't good for the social skills. >Resigning to find a way to at least give him an actual chance, you continue your work in earnest. >As you're getting down to the last few traps, the two of you now laden down with wild plants and fish, something starts to feel off. >Red feels it too, his ears up and twitching as something in the distance. >Grunts and growls can be heard amidst the rustling of underbrush. >Soon, your fears are realized when a large bear lumbers out, bellowing and aggressive roar. >Most likely, it was drawn by the smell of fish in the air. >Thankfully, it seems more interested in running you off for the prize than risking a fight. >As you begin to weigh your options, Cypress decides to surprise you, jumping between you and the hungry bear. >The buck stares down the larger beast, horns pointed at its toothy maw, crackling with magical energy. >It seems confused and a little scared of the bright lights and unfamiliar noise the cervid produces, giving you a moment. >Readying your blow gun, you load in a dart soaked in Lenora's potent, paralytic venom. >Simply touching it makes your fingers feel numb. >A strong breath is all it takes to launch the dart into the bears fuzzy neck. >It responds instantly, showing extreme agitation as loss of sensation begins to claim it. "PSI PUSH IT, RED!" >He obeys without thought, stumbling the bear backwards, giving you time. >Reaching into your belt satchel, you retrieve a handful of cruel mix of irritating spices, and launch it into the bears' face. >Your makeshift mace has the desired effect, rendering the bear temporarily blind. >Long enough to allow the two of you to get far enough away that the venom knock it out cold before it could hope to see recover. >Within a few minutes, the two of you are crossing the long fields, halfway back to Kimmy and Mera's lodge. >"So." Cypress begins. "That was a bit more excitement than I was expecting. How are you holding up, Mr.Mous." "Fine." you confirm with a pant. "Probably gonna have to rebuild some of my fishing traps. But it could have gone worse." >the deer nods with a small, hopeful smile. >"So...I'm sorry for what I said earlier." he admits, clearly swallowing his pride. "Maybe we can start over?" "Yeah, we can." you confirm. "But I still don't like you." >It's all you can do not to chuckle as you watch him visibly deflate. "Don't take it so personally, Cypress. You're trying to date two of my daughters. It's my job not to like you." >Taking a seat on a large, flat stone, you meet his gaze. "You know, not everyone would have the balls to stare down a bear like that, especially for someone that's been nothing but nasty to them...You really like them, don't you?" >"Yes sir!" he says with clear shock at your shift in demeanor. "When I'm around them, I...I just feel happy." "Well..." you begin, it now being your turn to swallow your pride. An act that goes down as smoothly as powdered glass. "They could do a lot worse. If you want to try to be with them, I won't interfere." >His face lights up as you stand, placing a hand on his shoulders. "Just don't get too comfortable. I've still got my eyes on you." you inform him with a small smirk. >"Yeah. Thank you...dad." "Don't push your luck...son. ***Thalia Babysitting*** Year 38 >"Are you sure you've got everything?" >"Yeah, Arie. It'll be fine." Lenora assures her with a sigh. "Go on, enjoy your trip. I've got her." >"Alright. Just be careful" the giantess pleads before leaning in and planting a kiss on her child's forehead. "You be good for aunt Lenora, alright Thalia?" >The infant responds with a small giggle. >"Good. We'll see you this evening." >"Later. Tell Firginia happy birthday for me. And tell dad I said hi." >"No problem." she says with a wave. >Closing the door, she examines baby in her arms. >She's a large baby, with deep black fur and only somewhat lighter hair hiding the nubs of sprouting horns. >Like her mother, she has an extra, golden eye set in the center of her forehead. But unlike her, Thalia's arms and ears are very much human. >Lenora sighs. The baby isn't demanding her attention, so she sets it down in the playpen with Oresus before ducking into the kitchen. >"So who was at the door, Lenora?" >"Ariana." she states. "She wanted us to watch her kid while she and dad went of to pick something up for Firginia's birthday." >"Oh, it's Firginia's birthday?" the shocked bunny inquires. "I'd completely forgot! How old is she today? 14, right?" >"Yeah. So what's for dinner?" she asks, trying to lift the lid of the large boiler. >Her effort earns her a slap of the knuckles with a wood spoon, drawing a yelp from the manticore. >"Roast boar organs and vegetables. And you can have some when it's good and ready, missy." >"Fine." she groans, nursing her stinging knuckles. "How much longer, then?" >"Not much, it just needs to sit a bit more. Why don't we go visit the tykes?" >Lenora goes silent, the feeling of the air leaving her sails almost palpable. >A fact that doesn't escape the bunny. >"Wanna talk about it, kitty cat?" she asks as she takes a seat, inviting her lover to do the same. "I dunno, Cotton. I'm just not sure how I feel about all this between Ariana and dad. And now they have their own kid together and... I just don't know." >The rabbit satyr slides her chair closer, leaning her small frame into the comparatively towering girl. >A large arm instinctively drapes across Cottonball's side, eager for her embrace. >Slowly, her hand begins rubbing the small doe's belly. Now swelling with the beginnings of life of its own. >"And now? I don't know how to feel about this...my new sister? Or niece? Both? What do you think?" >"Well..." the bunny begins gently. "I can't admit I feel the same gross out as the rest of you girls. Maybe it's because I'm not blood, or that I'm a bunny, or it could be just me." >She looks up, meeting the manticore's chocolate eyes. >"But I think it's important to remember how much time and energy he put into taking care of all of you. No matter how it makes you feel, he's still your dad, and you're his little Sushi." >The lioness pulls back a little, staring down the bunny, who only returns a cheeky smile. >Lenora gives a tired laugh before leaning back. >"Yeah. I know he'd do anything for us." >"Absolutely anything. Besides, if he wasn't odd to begin with, you wouldn't be here." the tiny satyr points out. >"Yeah...weird is kind of relative, I guess." she pouts. "I'm just not sure what to do is all." >"They're happy, I'd at least try to make peace with it. They deserve, if not your acceptance, at least your tolerance." >"Any ideas?" the powerful carnivore inquires? >Cottonball simply shrugs. >"Try playing with the baby, maybe? You know once you get attached, you'll just adore her." >"Couldn't hurt." the huntress retorts, ruffling the rabbit's floppy ears. >"Mmhm. And it's time we got in there. Little babies shouldn't be left alone." >Returning to the living room, the girls find the babies both awake and softly cooing to each other. >Upon noticing his mother, Oresus quickly cranes his head towards her, babbling happily. >"Oh, hey little guy!" she exclaims as her motherly instincts kick in. "How's mommy's favorite man doing?" >Cottonball giggles as she pulls the baby into her arms, gently rocking and baby talking him. >Following her cue, she scoops up Thalia for herself, drawing innocent laughs from the arimaspi. >The lovers talk amongst themselves for a time, basking in the rush of parenthood for as long as they're able. >"Lenora?" Cottonball calls out, the rigors of early pregnancy catching up to her. "I gotta sit down." >Making her way to the couch, she sets the heftier child down on the soft furs as she leans back for a breather. >She's quickly joined by the fiery haired satyr who likewise sets Oresus down between them. >The babies will have none of it, however, their cries for attention soon splitting the air. >Lenora reaches for Oresus, but Cottonball reaches to stop her. >"Sweetheart, what did we talk about?" she chides, holding out the larger infant. "It's your turn to hold this little gal." >The manticore nervously takes her complicated relative in hand, looking her up and down. >Thalia's three eyed gaze meets her sister's, making the baby smile. >Giving a resigned smile, Lenora puts the child in her lap. >With the children are placated for the moment, Lenora reaches out to the toy strewn table in front of them. >Grabbing a clockwork toy, she winds it and sets it on its way. >The babies are, as expected of such young children, enthralled as they watch the toy clang noisily along its loose path. >Clapping, giggling, and the happy screams only the very young can make fill the room with lively energy as the toy is rewound again and again. >As their interest slowly wanes, Cottonball slowly scootches closer. >"See? I told you that you'd grow on her." >"I'm just keeping her entertained." Lenora retorts. "I'm still not, you know, comfortable with it. At all." >"Well, thank you for trying." the bunny smiles. "Here. Let's get them down for a nap so we can eat." >In the bunny's hand rests an old, tattered book. A simple, home made book from Lenora's own childhood. >Barely a book, really. Just some crude, colorful pictures, and a simple story that gives excuse to talk to the baby. >Giving into the rabbits urging, she cracks open the old stack of parchment, knowing she'll be reading it several times. - >After the kids finally go to sleep, the girls head off to get their dinner. >The girls pile the on the food, and settle in for their meal. >"So, how do you like the kid?" >"She's... a kid. She's cute, I guess." Lenora sighs. "But I just can't look at her without, you know, thinking about it. Not yet." >"Just try to remember, you're like me. The fact that you and Firginia exist...this family was never "normal". Normal is relative." >Lenora over stuffs her mouth, buying time. >After several hard swallows, she finally speaks. >"Eventually. Eventually. It doesn't make me love Dad or Arie any less. I just, I need time to accept that it's a part of our lives now is all." >Cottonball smiles and prepares to speak when shrill cries pierce the air. >"Sounds like they're hungry too." Lenora announces, her ears already attuned to her child's needs. >"Go on. I'll get something for Thalia and be there in a few." >It takes the bunny only a few minutes to mash and apricot into a thin, runny paste and collect the goat child. >Outside, the manticore is already relaxing on a bench, watching the sunset as their sun nurses from her motherly breast. >With a smile, the rabbit nuzzles into her arm, spooning food into the child while enjoying the view. ***Night Nursing*** (Explicit, Incest) Year 38 >The engines hum as stars fly by you at impossible speeds. >Your fingers dig into the faux-leather armrests as your jaw clenches in anticipation. >It will still be days until your reach your destination, and you can't wait. >Suddenly, you're yanked out of warp as the klaxon alarms begin to wail. - >Snorting, you struggle to gain your bearings as Thalia's bleating cries yank you from your dream. >Quickly shuffling from the comfortable prison of your bed, you reach into a frost enchanted box for a bottle, when a claw resting on your shoulder stops you. >"I'm awake, daddy. I'll handle it." the arimaspi behind you states softly. >Nodding, you put away the bottle, as the light clicks on. >Ariana lets out a throaty gasp as she rushes over. >Looking up, you quickly see why. >Thalia is standing up in her crib, trying vainly to pull herself higher up the bars. >Her mother takes the baby in her claws, thwarting her escape attempt. >"Shh. It's alright Thalia. Mommy's here." the giantess gently coos the baby as she takes a seat on the bed. >As Thalia's cries begin to stifle, she's lowered to Ariana's breast, taking the the puffy nipple eagerly into her mouth. >Watching Ariana nurse your child, her expression as dreamy and peaceful as ever, you can only give a nervous laugh about the situation. >"Something wrong, daddy?" she asks. "Just thinking about Thalia. You know...she was standing." >"Yes!" she exclaims proudly. "Isn't it wonderful?" "It is. I'm very happy. But you're about to learn the true meaning of work." >"Uhh, how so?" "Because if she's anything like you and Kimmy, she's going to be an impossible handful. Aren't you Thalia?" you joke, gently shaking the baby's hand. >"I wasn't THAT bad, was I?" "Exactly that bad. I don't know if you can remember Lenora climbing all over everything, but the two of you were three times worse about it. I still can't fathom how you reached some of the places I found you." >The tall goat gives an embarrassed grin in response. >"Sorry about all that, then. I can't remember any of that." "I'm just teasing you, Ari. But we really do need to step up on the baby proofing, because it's probably not going to be possible to keep her out of everything." >The goat girl just gives a quiet "mmhm" as she relaxes, focusing on nursing your child. >"Well, I think daddy and I can handle that, don't you, Thalia?" >The baby stops suckling for a moment, shifting her three eyed gaze up for a moment before resuming. >"That's right." >Scooting behind her, you wrap your arms around the giantess' stomach. >Ariana lets out a large breath of air, her muscles rolling as she adjusts to your embrace. >She makes no objections as you run your hands across her thick form. >Her strong muscles, normally only covered by the faintest trace of chub are now largely hidden under a layer of motherly, post pregnancy fat, giving her a very full form. >You nuzzle your face across her wide back, the normally bare skin now rapidly growing in a heavy layer of downy cashmere as fall looms. >The soft fur feels wonderful against your skin as you enjoy simply being close. >Neither of you says a word, leaving the room silent save for the sounds of suckling. >Despite this, you'd be money that Ariana is blushing with a big dopey smile on her face. >Minutes pass like this before your daughter pulls the fruit of your taboo union from her chest. >"Full already? My, my, you're drinking less and less every day, aren't you?" she muses. "She's growing, sweetheart. It's probably time to think about weaning her entirely." >"It's just all so fast." she tells you as she slowly pulls from your grasp. "Seems just yesterday she was born, and now she's already eating mash and standing up." >Setting the content infant back in her crib, she turns hopefully back to you. "That's parenthood for you, Ari. It's very bittersweet. Just learn to enjoy it while it lasts." >Though mostly hidden by her bangs, you can make out a tinge of moisture in her large, golden eyes. "So, are they sore this time too?" you ask, attempting to break the awkward silence that had begun to linger. >"Yes sir." she replies, lifting her previous untouched breast. "I feel like I could burst." >The arimaspi girl offers you her claw, pulling you to your feet. >Despite her towering twelve foot frame, the gentle giant, as always waits patiently for you to lead. >Proof of the power a father has over his children, no matter the form their relationship takes. A power you've always been careful not to abuse. >With a small nudge, you encourage her to sit at the end of the bed, allowing you to straddle her lap. >Reaching up, you take the heftier mound in hand. >Your daughter accepts your actions, giving quiet gasps of pleasure as you roll the milk filled globe in your hands, massaging it as you enjoy its enormous heft. >Craning your head up, you pop the swollen nipple into your mouth. >As with every part of her, it's of prodigious size. >Nothing more than a single suckle is needed to encourage the tit to release its bounty. >A small blast of hot milk hits your throat, encouraging you. >Sucking deeper, you draw gasps from your goat with each spurt of milk, unsurprisingly outperforming the efforts of your inbred bundle of joy. >"Ah! Da~aad!" she bleats. "Please, they're sensitive!" "Well." you say, pulling off the nipple with a pop. "That just means they're still too full." >Needing only a gentle push to her belly as encouragement, the satyr falls back onto the bed, allowing you to move up. >Your new seat on her belly gives far better access to her chest than her lap did, and you intent to use it. >Clasping her furry paws in hand, you lean forward and plant a kiss on Ariana's soft lips. >Faint traces flavorful grasses and herbs drift up, tickling your palette with their earthy, subtle tones as you in turn force the flavor of her own rich milk onto her tongue. >Thick strings of saliva held solid by the taint of milk connect you as you pull away. >Lowering yourself, you plant more kisses down her neck and collarbone, each small peck against her skin eliciting small shudders of delight from your caprine lover. "Oh Ari." you muse as you cup her chin in your hand. "What did I ever do to deserve such a wonderful girl?" >"I should be asking how I got such a wonderful man." she gasps as she averts her gaze, dusky skin now beyond beet red. >Running a hand through her dark hair, you gently move it away from her face before you go in for another kiss. >Smiling, you release her, turning your attention back to her breasts. >The massive mounds wobble gently under your touch as you kneed them, slowly working your way inwards. >As your fingers reach the center, you savor the feeling of her areola, the small bumps dotting it holding promise of a delicious bounty. >Her nipples jut out proudly, nearly the size of your thumb tip, begging for release. >Who are you to deny them? >Grasping the large nubs of flesh, you gently squeeze, tiny jets of milk spraying from the pores of both. >Kneading a bit more, you watch as small rivulets of her motherly fluids roll down your hands, only to pool in the valley between her breasts. >Not holding back any further, you move back in, latching on once more, still fondling the breast your youngest worked so hard to drain. >Ariana groans on the line of pleasure and pain as you suckle. >Her arms wrap around your lower body, holding you tight as you drink deeply, enjoying the complex mingling flavor of human and arimaspi milk. >It's rich, deep, creamy and sweet. And so very filling. >There's no place you'd rather be at this moment, than here, gulping down your less than little girls milk. >Ariana seems to agree. >Her breathing slowly goes from a low, husky grumble to increasingly shrill animalistic bleats that betraying her caprine nature, only barely held back from waking the baby as she cups her mouth. >You can feel her body begin to rock under you, her legs bucking and kicking at the air in a touchless orgasm. >Taking one last pull of warm milk down your throat, you pull off her sensitive teat, now looking a bit less full than when you began. >The large satyr rests quietly for a moment. >As her senses come back to her, she looks up to you with the dreamy smile you know and love. >This time, it's Ariana who initiates, lifting up to plant a kiss on your milk splattered mouth before quickly pulling away. >"I love you dad. So, so much." "I love you too, Ari." you affirm. >The two of you quickly climb back under the furs and kill the lights, cuddling in silence for several minutes until you slowly begin to drift off. >"Daddy?" she begins, waking you. "Earlier, when you said parenting was bittersweet. What exactly did you mean?" >Lingering on a deep breath, you settle on how to phrase it. "It's...hard to watch your kids grow up. You're so proud of every little thing, but you'll also wish they'd stay little forever." >"I can understand that, I think. But there's something you weren't saying, dad. I know you better than that." >Looking out the window at the stars, you sigh, stroking her furred hand. "Ari? Before this, us? I was so scared of the day that you girls would all be grown and gone, leaving me some lonely empty nester." >The arimaspi's grip tightens into a firm hug. >"I'm not going anywhere, dad." she states in a comforting tone. "I know sweetheart. And thanks. For staying. And for giving us a beautiful daughter." >"Would...would you..." she begins with a stutter. "Would you like another one?" "Another? Another kid?" you nearly yell in surprise. >"Mhmm." "Ari, it hasn't even been a year. It's a bit early to think about that, and your body is probably still strained from Thalia." >"I know. But, I'm just letting you know, we can have as many as you want, when the time comes." "Thanks, sweetheart. It means a lot." you say, petting her arm. >Smiling, you readjust yourself in her comfortable embrace and drift off to sleep. ***Forest Poisons*** Year 55 >A banging on the door rouses the young goat from her concentration, but before Clio can get to her hooves, her guest pushes inside of their own accord. >"Knock knock, Clio, it's your favorite aunts in the world!" Kimmy happily announces, to her twins ever present annoyance. >"Oh, hey aunt Kim, Aunt Mera. What's brings you here?" she asks, slowly edging back towards what she was doing. >"Dad said you'd moved out to here. We decided we'd like to see how you were doing." the serpentine companion responds. >Clio's eyes flick to them in acknowledgment, but silently keeps to her work, grinding a piece of geode crystal into a fine powder, indifferent to the awkward silence. >"The time seemed right. I just felt that mother and father would appreciate the privacy." she states as she finishes. "And not having to deal with the smells of the mages craft." >"Right, right." the older nanny responds. "But it's still your own place. Feels good, right?" >"Yes." Clio nods. "Though I'm not sure alone really counts here." she claims, pointing out her window. "It's less than a hundred paces to mother and father's cabin." >Kimmy simply shrugs. >"Still counts, you know? Making your own life." she muses. "Anyway. While we're here, need any help unpacking a bit?" >"I appreciate it, but no." she informs her aunt nervously as she pulls a satchel from within a pile of robes. "I have a lot of breakable equipment and important arcana I don't want to misplace." >"I don't blame you." the snake laughs. "Kimmy has never had a delicate touch." >"Right." the satyr groans with a roll of the eyes. "Anyway, we brought you a housewarming gift." >"Really? Thank you, aunties!" the young arimaspi exclaims. >"We sure did!" the larger twin says as Mera slithers into their pack. >The snake quickly returns with an old weathered journal. >"Oh? What's that?" >"You know how I always told you how me and Mera used to dabble with alchemy as kids? Well we finally found the old journal I wrote my combinations down in." >The serpent sister drops the tome into the giantess' claws before correcting her sibling. >"It was mostly Kimmy making poisons for hunting, really. Was always a waste of meat when you used it on small game." >"Yeah well, good for taking down big game. And poison is easy to make. You know what they say the first potion every alchemist learns, right?" >"Antidote." Clio idly states as she skims the book, its leather binding cracked and the parchment pages stiff with poor maintenance and age. >"Yeah, that... was the joke..." >The caprine teen silently flips through a bit. >"Hmm. No real methodology, but good detail on your results, even if I'm spotting some errors. A good few combinations I've never tried." >Closing the book, she smiles at the smaller girls. >"Thank you, aunties. I think I can get some good use out of this." >"You're very welcome, Clio." Mera returns. >"Yeah, no prob." >Quickly washing her hands in a small bucket, the satyr stands and pulls a large jug from a shelf before quickly filling it with water from a nearby barrel. >"I'm going out and grabbing the ingredients for a few of these." she says as she scoops a tea blend into the jug and sets it on the hearth. "The two of you are welcome to come." >"Eh. How long?" the larger chimera inquires. >"Around 15 or 20 minutes. I'm only grabbing a few of the more common ones, so it shouldn't take long." >"Hmm, sure. Why not?" the twins shrug. >"Thank you." the triclopse says, nodding. "I appreciate the company. Just let me get ready." >With practiced speed, Clio fills a backpack with all manner of small pouches, flasks and string, along side a hatchet, hunting knife and stave. >Minutes later, the trio are making their ways into the woods near the shack, traversing the foggy woodland with a lifetime of practice until they enter a familiar glade. >"Ah, it's been a while since I've been in this part of the woods." Kimmy muses. >"Indeed. It was always a pleasant spot. Plentiful prey as well." >"It is rather calming." Clio joins in as she pulls out her blade. "This will only take me a few minutes. Feel free to relax." >Shrugging, Kimmy takes a seat on a flat rock, using her claws to idly whittle away on a random chunk of wood. >"So how have Dad and Ariana been?" Mera inquires. >"Yeah, it's been a bit longer than I'd like since we had a good chat with them." >"They're fine." the giantess assures them. "Father's doing his best to stay active and keep age at bay. Mother's trying to get back into writing." >"She is?" Mera shines. "Good to see she hasn't given up. Her stories might not be masterpieces, but I enjoy them." >"AHH!" Clio squeals out in surprise as she upturns a rotted log. >"What?!" the twins shout in unison. >"Copperhead." she states as she readies her stave. >The mundane snake sits, still and frozen in the mistaken belief that it is camouflaged, even as the staff approaches it. >When the wood presses into the back of its neck, it tries in vain to lash back for a reactionary bite before electricity crackles from the enchanted wood. >As soon as the serpent goes still, the hatchet comes down, severing its head. >Mera winces as Clio begins siphoning the snakes fluids into vials. >"Oh, sorry to make you have to see that, auntie Mera." she states as she stands. "But it is rather useful." >"Yeah, I know. It's fine." she says grimly. >"Speaking of, do you think Oresus retains auntie Lenora's resistance to manticore venom, or if he has a lower resistance to match his weaker venom?" >"Not a clue. I don't think you're about to get Lenora to sting him to find out, either." >The arimaspi chuckles lightly at the comment. >"Oh no, I'd never ask her to do something like that. Maybe I could figure out with blood samples though. Something to think about for later." >Standing, the giant tucks the corpse into a leather satchel before turning back to her aunts. >"I think I've got enough to experiment with for now. Ready to head back? The tea should be ready." >"Oh, absolutely." >As the group makes their way though the woodland, the weather turns, blowing the fog away as denser storm clouds creep in. >"So Aunties. You were the last ones to make the trip to town, correct?" >"Yeah. Why?" The tigress replies. >"I'm just curious about how Thalia's doing." >The girls smile before the reptilian sister replies. >"Quite well. She's still staying with the Apple clan at the moment. They're actually allowing her to co-manage part of their stands in the town market now." >Clio smiles at the news. >"It's good to know she's doing well for herself." >Arriving at the shack, Clio quickly sets aside her pack and gloves before again washing her hands. >"Please sit." She implores them while pulling the jug from the flames. "I'll get the two of you some tea." >The chimera patiently wait as their niece ladles out cups for the three of them before producing her staff. >"One moment" she says, tapping the the wooden rod to the side of the containers. >First one, then the second spew steam as sparks of magic suck the excess heat from the roiling liquid. >The third however is far less successful, causing the earthenware cup to crack as it fails to withstand the rapid change in temperature. >"Oh... Well, the other two are yours." >"Thanks, Clio." Kimmy says with a hint of apology. >"Yes, thank you. When did you begin practicing conventional magic anyhow?" >"Just recently!" she exclaims, perking back up. "I'm not good at all yet, but I'm enjoying it." >"That's great. Just kee-" Mera begins before being cut off by a clap of thunder. >"I think that's our cue to go, sis." Kimmy says before knocking back her drink in one large swig. >"Agreed." the snake replies, bobbing her head into her glass for a long draw. "As I was saying, keep practicing, Clio. And tell Dad and Ariana that we'll be over to visit soon." >"Thank you, and I will." she says, waving them off with a smile. ***Bail*** Year 56 >The rattling of the cart behind you dies down, the smooth trodden road signaling that you're getting close to town before you spot any landmarks. >Glancing up, you notice Ariana's face twisted into an expression of apprehension and annoyance that looks out of place on the normally serene giant. "Sweetie?" you call softly, touching one of her clawed fingers, causing her to jump slightly. "Are you alright?" >"Yes," she nods, "I'm just not... really sure how to feel. Maybe we should make her come home." >You chuckle a bit, quickly quieting yourself as you note the annoyance in her golden eyes. "Kids do dumb stuff, Ari. Teens doubly so. Let's hear her out at least before we do anything too rash, okay?" >The giantess is silent for a few moments before letting out a loud sigh. >"Okay... We're nearly there," she notes towards a distant hill too high for you to see over. "should we stop by the farm, or go right to the jail?" "I'm thinking... Farm, the Apples 'll get us filled in on what's what." >Turning back, you take note of your passengers. Oresus and his sister Pecan are still sleeping, unbothered by the rattle of the cart. >They had elected to tag along on the unplanned trip to their dad's farm. Deciding they could use some time to be fully awake, you give the cart a hard jostle. "Hey, time to wake up, you two." >The flighty rabbit jolts awake with a loud yelp, curling into her brother's side instinctively for protection as the larger manticore slowly comes to. >"Eh?" he slurs out, "What's going on?" "We're almost at your pa's, son. Figured you aught to get yourselves woke up." >Your grandson doesn't reply, simply stretching, his joints popping loudly while Pecan pulls herself from him. >As you return your attention to the path ahead, a slight shift catches you off guard before a tanned hand seizes your wrist. >"I'll handle it from here, grandpa." Oresus assures you as you're gently ushered into the cart, "Take a break." >Choosing not to resist, you settle in, content to watch the scenery. >Time passes slowly and peacefully for the last few miles, save for Ariana periodically swatting away low branches, and Pecan's ever present skipping and humming. >The evening sun shines warmly as you exit the forested path. Skirting the town proper, your group beelines for the farm. >Noting by the sun that it's almost noon, you shake your head, realizing you made exceptionally poor time today. >By the time you get close to the farm proper, it's clear you've been seen, the Apple patriarch stepping out of a barn to meet you. >Oresus brings the cart to a halt as Pecan runs ahead, bounding into her father's arms before you're even on the ground. >"And how's my big man?" he asks Oresus, trailing from an unheard conversation with his daughter. >"I've been great, pa." he confirms, "Good farmin' and huntin' recently. Everyone's sayin' me an' the rabbits are about big enough to have our own cabins too. Give our moms some privacy." >You tune out slightly, letting the three of them catch up. >Ariana, nervous and impatient, nudges you, her triclopian gaze urging you to move things forward. "I don't mean to break up y'alls reunion, but we do still need to know what went down." >"Aww, ain't too complicated. The little missy had a bit too much to drink an' backhanded some poor fool." >"She didn't hurt them, I hope!" your secret wife exclaims with concern. Thalia was no pipsqueak and could certainly hurt someone. >"Nah, just laid 'em out. Ya'll can go pick her up whenever ya' want. I already paid 'er bail. You just gotta sign her out." "Quite generous of you." >"Don't say that, 'cus I got a lotta heavy liftin' needs doin', and I intend to work that girl to the bone till she pays back every bit." "I wouldn't expect any less!" you chuckle. "that's what family's for." >A few laughs surge through your group before the aging farmer continues. >"Truth told, I think you ought to have a chat with that girl 'bout her spendin'. Has champagne taste on a beer budget, that one." "Alright." you confirm with a nod. "We'll keep that in mind. Anything else." >"Nah. Thinkin' me and the kids'll head to Darcy's in a bit. Meet us there when you're done if ya like." "That a good idea? Considerin' why she's sittin' in jail right now?" >"Trust me. Would be good for ya to see how she carries on." "Just might do that." you nod. "Come on Ari. We left Thalia stewin' long enough." >The nanny lets out a deep sigh of relief, a vague animalistic bleat hidden under it. >In an unexpected move, your daughter hoists you into her arms and at a jog, a full on sprint were she of a normal size, sets off towards the jail, leaving her niece and nephew to catch up with their father. >Despite the distance of the farm from the town proper, Ariana makes excellent time, breaking into an almost full spring once she's free of any low hanging obstacles. >As she approaches the town proper however, she slows, the short citizens and squat structures demanding her caution. >In a mixed blessing, her abnormally frantic behavior has the effect of creating a wide berth around the two of you, allowing her to pass relatively quickly, and soon you find yourself at the local jail. >Ariana lets you down, giving you a chance to straighten your clothes as you look the place over. >The prison is a typical small town county jail. Tiny, surely containing no more than three of four cells, and certainly not designed for uncommon species. >Ducking to step inside, you're immediately greeted by a mare at a desk to your left. >"What do you want?" She groans, clearly annoyed as she looks up. "Wait, you're that human lives out in the mountains, right? You here for the goat?" >"Huh? Hey gramps!" your daughter calls from a cell on the opposite side of the room, in front of which a short, gray haired satyr boy is standing. "Yep, they're here for me!" >"Goddesses be praised! Give me a minute to handle this paperwork." she tells you as she begins rummaging through her desk, ignoring you. >Figuring you have some time to kill you head over. "So, Thalia. Who exactly's this?" you ask, indicating toward her visitor. >"Him? Oh, this is just my boy toy!" she informs you excitedly, reaching out to pull him tight against the bars. >You glance over the two, then back to your wife crouched uncomfortably in the door frame. >Her expression says she's equally as surprised as you. >"Thalia, please." he grunts out, "I'm old enough to be your father, not a boy." >Ariana laughs faintly at his ignorance of the situation, while Thalia does so with gusto, her chuckling ramping up until she snorts a bit, dropping the short satyr in embarrassment. >"Right... as I was saying, my name is Sterling Spoon. I'm Thalia's, well, boyfriend." he informs you, offering his hand. "Anon Y. Mous" you state, taking his hand perhaps a little to hard. "Her grandpa." >"Ah! Well sir, I know I may seem a bit old for h-" "I don't care 'bout that. Just so long as you're good to her." you state bluntly, beating down your more overprotective impulses. >"Here!" the guard cries. "Sign here and she's good to go." >Stepping towards the desk, you skim over the release papers and sign it, only for the officer to snatch them away before promptly heading over to unlock Thalia's cell. >"Alrighty goat, come collect your things and you're free to go." she motions towards a small back room. "Hustle." >Thalia is forced to walk stooped in the low building, and a part of you feels slightly guilty over letting her stew any longer than needed in these cramped conditions. >Not able to stand up perfectly straight yourself here, you opt to just wait outside, Sterling following close behind. >An awkward silence falls over your group for a moment. The seconds feeling like minutes as you notice everyone staring each other up and down. "So, Sterling? Don't I know you from somewhere? You look familiar." >"He's the guy you set me up on a date with back when... mom was pressuring me to date." >"I'm surprised you remember me. Pardon, I seem to have forgotten your name." >"Ariana." the nanny states. "It's alright, it's not as memorable as my appearance." "So what's the deal with you an' Thalia, boy?" you begin with a laugh. "One awkward date with her mom, and you're still holdin' on twenty somethin' years later?" >"NO! No, no." He stammers. "No. I work at the bank, and whenever she'd come in handle things for her store, she'd always flirt with me." >He pauses for a moment before he continues. >"Quite unprofessional, letting a client sweet talk you, but she was quite insistent." "Hear that, Ari? Thalia's got 'erself a sugar daddy!" >The giantess, thankfully, seems to have de-stressed over the whole situation, and is now gigging at Sterling's "misfortune". >"HEY! It's not just a money thing." "Course not, Sterling." you confirm, trying to beat down your laughter. "She was raised better than that. She probably picked ya 'cause you look meek." >"Meek?" he repeats, clearly offended. "Don't get yourself in a twist. Thalia's always been bossy. Thinkin' it's to compensate over bein' short. Napoleon complex an' all that." >"She's supposed to be short..." "Compared to her mother." you say, motioning to the 12 foot titan. >"You should see her brother!" Ariana chimes in with a smile. >Clearly disheartened by his own stature, you wonder if you should offer some motivation, but Ariana beats you to the punch. >"Thalia just likes to push boundaries, but she's a sweetheart like all my babies." Ariana beams with motherly pride. "Just stand your ground, and she'll behave." >He doesn't respond, but you swear you can hear some gears turning in his head. >The three of you chat for a moment longer before the door to the jail is slung open, the giantess stepping out with a loud, exaggerated groan, her heaps of jewelry glinting radiantly in the summer sun. >"Feels good to be out of that little cell!" she exclaims, her bones popping audibly as she stretches. "You don't know how good it feels just to be able to stand up straight again!" >"I suppose you're lucky you didn't take after your mother then." Sterling replies with a touch of forced stoicism. >Surely he's not going to... >"And what does that mean?" Thalia asks, taking the bait with a smile. >"I just mean that if you weren't so, shall we say... petite, your back would be in a lot of pain right now." >Thalia's toothy grin quietly dies down into a faint smile, red tinging her dusky skin. >Looking over, Ariana seems as amused by it as you are. Thalia is no doubt gritting her teeth. >"Right. Well, still taller than you... So! Where are we going now." she inquires, shifting the subject. But you can tell Sterling just discovered her weakness. "Darcy's. Gonna meet up with your cousins an' their dad." >"Fun! Don't tell me which ones, it'll be a surprise! Come on shorty!" she blurts as she effortlessly lifting her diminutive boyfriend onto her shoulders. "We're going drinking." >The young nanny rushes ahead in a blur of black fur and gold. >Shrugging, Ariana and yourself just move at your own pace. >Your walk is fairly short and uneventful, though you make a note of some good deals on supplies to pick up before you leave. >Before you know it, you're there. A large, but modestly decorated building at the edge of town, built at a scale comfortable to the bar's satyr owner and namesake. >Ariana squeezes in easily enough behind you and takes a seat in a corner, the bar being one of the few buildings in town she can even fit inside of. >As expected, Thalia's already causing a ruckus, holding up Sterling in one hand and Pecan in the other, bragging about her strength. >The gloating goat chirps up even more as she notices the two of you, setting the two down as she saunters over. >"Hey mom, gramps! I thought you two must've gotten lost! Welcome to my home away from home." "So I've heard. Not plannin' on breakin' anymore people's teeth, I hope." >"PFFT. One time thing, I promise." >Before you can say anything else, she bolts back into the crowds to mingle. >"Not too keen on listenin', is she?" comes a husky voice from behind you, Darcy soon taking a seat at your table. "I think she just ain't used to city livin' yet." >"City." the motherly satyr chuckles. "I suppose compared to a couple of cabins in the woods it is." >"Her vices worry me." adds Ariana. >"They do me too." Darcy adds, sliding a slip of paper toward you. "I'm thinkin' of cutting her off, whether she can pay this or not." >Reading the slip out loud, you find yourself shocked at the sheer size of the tab she's built up. >Not just that she drank so much, but that Darcy didn't cut her off a long time ago. >Leaning back, you share a glance with Ari. A silent discussion plays out, and you know she feels the same disappointment in your daughter that you do. >More strongly perhaps, this being her first time experiencing it. >As you ponder this over, an idea strikes. "Thalia! Come here, girl!" >Despite her recent bout of showing out, she quickly bounds over, her upbringing taking over. >"Yes grandpa?" "Let me see your hand." >Confused, she obeys. >Taking the offered limb, you quickly pop off one of her bangles before she can react. >"Hey! What are you doing?" "This," you state matter-of-factly, handing off the expensive jewelry "Is Darcy's now." >"What!?" the table collectively blurts. >Even Darcy's piercing green eyes bore into you, her normally controlled demeanor overcome by confusion. "Unless you've got a few hundred bits on you to pay your bar tab off." >"I don't but da..." she nearly slips. "Darcy. And... Grampa, I. I just. I'll just work it off. That's worth way more than that." >Darcy slinks back into her seat, seemingly concerned the frantic arimaspi may jump her to reclaim her lost property. "You're already workin' off room and board for the Apples, an' you're in the hole for this, your bail, and maybe some other stuff I don't know about." you state firmly, before softening to a more concerned tone. "Maybe losin' somethin' precious'll teach ya to be a bit more reserved with your spendin'." >Ariana pulls Thalia into a seat next to her, the smaller arimaspi slumping her head onto the table, her horns clicking loudly against the surface. >"Maybe we could pay for it for her, just this once?" the giantess suggests, petting her daughter's hair. >The smaller goat looks up, pleading with her eyes. "Sure. If she wants to use up her lifeline over a bar tab, by all means. And then she'll learn nothin', do it again, and we'll drag her irresponsible little butt home." >Thalia's expression drops. >"It's not that I hate the homestead, it's just that it's so... boring." she mutters before letting out a loud sigh. "Fine. Keep the bangle." >Darcy visibly relaxes, before starting to look over the jewelry. >"Are all... "hoarder" species like that over their things?" she asks with some trepidation. >Ariana raises her furred arms in response, showing her distinct lack of jewelry aside from her ever present nethi chutti. >"No. You just, you just have to control it, and remind yourself sometimes that things are just things." >Thalia only groans in response to the jab at her moral failings. >"Well, she's right that it's worth a lot more than her tab. Get whatever ya'll want, this'll cover it." >As she tries to scoot from her seat, you gently take her by the shoulder. "Hey, by the way, Darcy. You still with that old fella of yours? If not, I could certainly go for a pretty young mare that likes older guys." you prattle off as you motion towards Ariana who's already facing away trying to look uninterested as her eyes bore into you from behind her bangs. "And the big one could use a mom." >"Yes Anon." Darcy giggles. "I'm still happily married, just like the last five times you asked. Viejo tonto, I swear." "In that case, I'll jus' have one of your delicious pies." >"Keg of wine..." Thalia requests. >"The usual, then. And you, Ariana?" >Figuring up her relative size, she choses a step up. >"Could we afford a keg of brandy?" >"Heavy drinker tonight, huh? Yes, you can. Alright. Ya'll sit tight and I'll swing by in just a bit." >Figuring you have some time, you decide to mingle a bit. >Leaving your flustered nanny to stew for a while, you head to the other side of the bar, taking a seat beside your grandson and his father. >"So what's your take?" the old farmer asks. "I think she just ain't used to town life." >"Maybe dad could keep her on the farm more?" Oresus deadpans. "Maybe if she don't learn from this." >Noticing his stare, you follow the protective manticore's gaze to the tiny stage where Pecan is finishing a song. >The gregarious bunny accepts her applause with little humility, basking in the attention. >"Hey gramps!" she greets you, plopping down next to her brother as she tucks into a waiting plate of chicken. "Hey Pecan. What are you up to?" >"Waiting on another turn to sing." she points to the stage, now occupied by a mare singing a fairly mediocre song. "I WILL have my big break." >"Heh, keep practicin', sweet pea." Her father begins by rubbing her hair. "You'll get there eventually." >The bunny smiles before slogging back a glass of cider. >After spending a short while talking, you notice Darcy coming out from the back and decide to return to your own table, where you see Sterling has rejoined you. >Darcy sets down your pie as Thalia plucks the keg from her strong shoulders. >Right behind her, another member of the Apple clan rolls a larger barrel towards the larger armaspi, who politely takes it from him. >"Give me just a minute, Ariana. I'll get you spigot to open t-" Darcy begin, cut off by a loud splintering sound as the goatrilla shatters a board on the rim of the barrel with a single punch. >"That, uh, that works too." the Spanish satyr mutters as she gets back to her business. >Not to be one upped, Thalia tries to imitate the act, slamming the lid of her keg with a loud thunk. >Drawing back her hand with a yelp however, it's clear she did little more than bruise her knuckles. >Realizing that the ruckus has landed all eyes on her, your titanic daughter slips back into her normally shy demeanor, quietly nursing her drink as she tries to hide her face behind her thick hair. >Thalia, likely embarrassed, uncharacteristically imitates this as well. >Some time passes as you let the girls drink, getting less and less tense. >For your own parts, you and Sterling stay sober, making small talk until the giants prodigious tolerances are breached, and their state begins to show. >As predicted, you soon hear a loud ruckus from the other section of the bar, with the few people you can spot from where you are watching something with concern. "Hey Thalia." >"Yeah?" she slurs ever so slightly, no longer completely moping about her bangle. "I think we need to have a chat 'bout your spendin'." >She just groans with a light bleat. >"We already did that." "Well we're doin' it again." you state, as you begin cutting the still untouched pie. "You need to learn to budget, missy. Figure out how much you make in a month, and after your bills," you say, pushing three pieces of the pie to Ariana, "expenses and obligations," you continue, pushing two to Thalia, "and a good chunk of what's left to savin's.", passing two more to Sterling. >Drawing her attention to the lonely piece left over, you continue. "And you'll usually have some left to enjoy. And on bad months, you'll have money to fall back on, and on good ones you can splurge." >"I... I get it." "Hope so. An' you," you point at the tiny man "ought to know better if ya work in a bank. Don't keep lettin' her act a fool." >The two of them seem ready to protest, but you interrupt them as you take Thalia's arm, gently pulling her to the other side of the bar, Sterling in tow. "I want ya to give this a watch." you demand, pointing to the stage. >Before you stands a staggeringly drunk Pecan, singing her heart out. >Though singing is being very generous to the incoherent, slurred babble coming from her mouth. >She rattles through a number of jumbled songs, starting and stopping before starting a completely different song mid line. >Eventually, she settles on a loop of the diddy she sang incessantly as a kit. >"I am Pecan! Ginger bun Becan, I am a bun. Bun bun bun bun bun. Cute bun Pecal..." >Each repeat is a bit more jumbled than the last as she settles into an unfocused routine, any coordination giving way to shrieking giggles. "Bunny can't hold her liquor, eh?" you ask Oresus, who looks mortified. >Their father on the other hand seems quite amused, laughing audibly at the scene. "Wonder if you make this much of a scene, Thalia. That's what overindulgence gets ya." >She says nothing, but her eyes scan the reactions of the crowd, her cousin, and her boyfriend. >The universal sentiment seems to be mockery or second hand embarrassment. >Shortly into this, Pecan begins to jump and bounce, at one point kicking a glass from a nearby table which shatters onto the floor. "Alright Oresus!" you say, grabbing his shoulder. "We've had our laugh, go get her before she hurts herself." >Nodding, the thick built satyr quickly makes is way over to scoop up the rabbit girl. "Anyway, I'm thinkin' it's time I got back t' the farm." >"Will ya'll be stayin' tomorrow, or headin' back?" you host inquires. "Depends on if everyone's hung over in the mornin'. Anyhow." >"Yep." >Walking back to the other area of the bar, you spot Ariana already watching as you come through the door. "Ari, we're gone." >She needs no further motivation, silently turning up her barrel, draining whatever brandy remained. >"Yes sir. Let's go. Thalia, sweetie, are... are you coming." >She perks up for a moment. >"No, no. I'm gonna stick around here for a little longer. Finish my wine and think." making eye contact, she give the both of you a small wink and smile. "I'll be back in a couple of hours, don't worry." >Smiling the two of you make your way outside. >No sooner does the door close do you feel yourself being lifted, cushioned between Ariana's massive breasts, concealed only by the gloom of night. >"Daddy... I think we need to have a long talk..." she states, her voice slow and deliberate as she copes with her drunken state. "Oh? 'bout what?" you tease. >"I'm thinking of having another kid." she whispers in a way that seems almost predatory, booze coating her breathe. "Now that's a lot of talkin' to do. We best get to it." >You feel a shift, and you're on your way to the barn. ***Flooded Meadow*** Year 58 >The spring sun beats warmly down on the giant's skin as he walks the familiar plains, wind whistling through his silver locks. >As he crests one final hill, he spies a scene he's viewed many times. >His youngest sister, cloaked as always, in one of her plain robes, her auburn fur standing starkly against the shimmering greens of the flooded meadow in front of her. >It was a yearly occurrence, when the river would run over in spring and flood the small patch of woodland. >"I knew I'd find you here." he says, placing a hand on her shoulder. >She looks up with a soft smile. >"Of course. The flood's the only time to find gar eggs or copse slime, among other useful reagents." the spritely alchemist beams. "But anyway, what brings you here, Theseus'?" >Theseus' takes a seat on the ground next to his smaller sibling, not meeting her gaze. >"I came to tell you I'm moving out of the valley." >"Leaving?" Clio exclaims, taken aback for a moment. "Are... are you serious?" >"Yes. I'll be gone in the morning." >"Does anyone else know?" >"You're my last stop, actually. We've got the day together." >The stunned satyress sits in silence for some time, before looking to her brother. >"Where are you going?" >"I'm going to a new small town near Tall Tale being set up by some noble around his estate. Gonna join their guard, get some formal archery training, see what life's like outside." >"You sure, Theseus? That sounds dangerous." she says with a hint of pleading. >The larger satyr grins, bearing his prominent fangs. >"Don't worry, Clio. It's the town guard, not the military." >"Then be especially careful. It wouldn't do for you to get sliced up by some angry drunk. I don't think father could take losing his only son." >Theseus' chuckles softly as a quiet sets over the two, basking in the bittersweet feeling of siblings and best friends soon to be parted for the first time. >"Anyway." Clio begins as she stands. "I came out here to gather ingredients. You're welcome to help if you'd like, for old times sake." >Nodding, the elder caprine rises as the two of them shed their clothing before sliding on slings containing lose cloth bags and sheathes for daggers. >Theseus, for his part, opts to keep his bow and a few arrows, knowing that the weapon will make collecting the gar eggs far easier. >Approaching the waters edge, the two dip their hooves experimentally into the waters. >Slightly warm, but with a brisk undercurrent. >Satisfied, they wade in. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vba8eaeyW2g >The two swim through the gentle currents, dipping from time to time to scan for useful ingredients. >"Here!" Clio announces, calling her brother to a long dead tree. >Examining where the water meets the trunk, a shiny brown slime can be seen wobbling gently in the surface, it's portions above the surface weeping a thin red, spore filled gel. >"Copse slime. Great quantity, acceptable quality. I'd say about two bags should be more than enough for the season." >Nodding, Theseus takes a deep breath before diving under. >For a moment, he takes a moment to admire the scenery, flowers and shrubs, the blooming oaks and full evergreens with sheens of air bubbles clinging to them like beads of glass. >His triclopian vision takes in every minute detail as a twinge of fear of leaving home grips him. >Shaking off the feeling, he turns back to the task at hand. >Unsheathing his dagger, he joins his sister in scraping lengths of the valuable slime mold from the hide of the rotting tree while doing his best to keep the wood out. >Soon, with their bags filled, the two head up to up for air. >Breaching with a deep gasp, the two of them pause for a moment before the ginger furred satyr speaks. >"Thanks, Theseus. You know, I'll miss days like this." she admits. >"So will I." He states. "We should really keep looking." >Clio nods, the two resume swimming, following the flow of the water as they scan the forest floor from above, occasionally diving to collect useful things. >Finally, as they manage to fill the last of their bags, the two make their way closer to shore, amidst the weeds and reeds where the waters barely reach their thighs. >"Gar spawning season has already begun, we need to find a girl who hasn't laid yet, preferably a big, gravid one." >The two watch the shallows, practically slithering with the large, jagged fish. >Males compete against each other for supremacy, while successful partners fill recesses and divots into the foliage with their bright red eggs. >Despite their intimidating appearance, the creatures show no inclination to attack anything large or unfamiliar, allowing the tall caprines to walk among them. >"There" announces Theseus, pointing out a seven foot specimen slowly crawling the floating weeds. >"She's as large as me. She's perfect." >Silently, the archer nocks an arrow and draws, focuses with his center eye, and takes a deep breath before letting the arrow fly. >The fish gives only a few spasms as the arrow pierces her skull. >Approaching, the goat man uses his blade to pierce the gar's throat, ensuring the fish is truly dead before attempting to dig out the sadly unsalvageable arrow. >The siblings hoist the large fish onto their shoulders, careful to avoid its dagger like scales as they make their way back to Clio's camp. >Setting it aside, the two ring their hair dry before Clio slips back into her robe, and her brother back into his furs. >"It's getting late. If you'll prepare the fish, I'll set up the tent and gather some wood for a fire." >"Sure, don't be too long." >Clio silently complies as Theseus sets about his work, pulling off the tough skin, cutting out the spine and organs, pulling out the fine ribs, and carefully separating the useful but toxic eggs. >Setting aside the skin, and the ready made arrowheads that comprise its scales for himself. >Soon, his sister returns, the fire is built and the meat skewered. >"So." Clio begins as she starts on the tent. "I've wondering how you're going to be getting to this town. Not walking alone, I hope." >"No. The Apples send a caravan to Vanhoover every few months to deal with other family of theirs up there. I'll be meeting them by the road and traveling with them till our path split. Thalia told them to expect me." >"That's good..." she trails off into an awkward silence. >The two finish cooking and building in silence, getting half way into an awkward meal before she finally breaks the tension. >"Will you ever come back?" >What?" he nearly chokes." Yeah. I'll visit from time to time." >"No." she shakes her head. "Will you move back to the valley, after you've had your adventure?" >"I...I really don't know. I'm going to see what it's like in another place. Explore the unfamiliar... Maybe find love. I can't answer that question, because I have no idea." >"I think you'll be back. I know you, Theseus." she says confidently, wrapping her arms around him in a hug. "But if I'm wrong, please don't forget to visit." >"Of course not." he confirms, returning her hug. "Anyway, I should get to bed." he tells her, pulling away. >"So soon? The sun's barely set." >"I have to be up extra early if I want to meet the caravan." he states remorsefully. "I'll probably be gone by the time you're up." >Clio gives her brother a melancholy smile in confirmation. >"Alright. Take care of yourself, Theseus. See you soon." she says with a pause. "And just so you know, we'll miss you. Especially me." >"I'll miss you too." he returns as he climbs into his tent.
