A nice sunny day Perfect for working outdoors There’s a gentle breeze >Looking out across the filling lake, you can’t help but stand there in awe. Just a few short months ago, this was an overgrown patch of weeds on the other side of the Manehatten Park river. >Soon, phase one of the Manehatten Park revitalization project will be complete. Now, phase two can get underway. The construction of the Manehatten Park Pier. >There wasn’t going to be a pier originally, but somepony higher up thought it would be a good idea. A few yes-ponies later, and here we are. Can’t complain, really. It’s better than the dredging work you and your crew are usually tasked with. >”Swift! Swift! SWIFTY!” >You turn towards the voice calling you. It’s the civilian architect assigned to your unit for this project; Serenity Garden. >She’s a cute little unicorn. Fresh out of Academy. Earned top marks in her class and eager to prove herself. >She’s ‘guiding’ a mix of Earth and Unicorn Corps-ponies hauling the pilings over to your side of the newly-formed lake. This is one of those times myself and the rest of the unit humor her. All she’s really doing is just walking along side them. >You make your way towards her as she levitates one of her blueprints out of her saddle bag. “I’ve told you how you’re supposed to address me in front of the Guard, Miss Serenity.” >She rolls her eyes then bows. “My apologies Sergeant Swift Hammer esteemed Earth mare of the Royal Guard Corps of Engineers.” >You shoot a glare at the snickering unicorn guard walking next to Serenity. The guard lets out a soft chuckle and nods. “Hmpff” >A thought comes to mind as you take a glance up at the pilings looming over everypony. The Quartermaster’s office sent the wrong cargo straps. They were too thin and narrow. Stronger, wider ones were to be delivered by the end of the week. “I thought we were going to wait until the proper cargo straps arrived to move the pilings?” >”Huh? Oh, I figured we could avoid falling behind and use restraint spells to augment the straps we had.” >She waves a hoof in the direction of the flat bed wagon being pulled by the Earth ponies. “There’s a unicorn at each corner casting a restraining spell and as long as we move slowly we should be ok.” >A gust of wind blew across your group catching Serenity by surprise. Her magic falters enough to free the blueprint from her magical grasp. >The freed blueprint lands on the unicorn guard’s face just as Serenity jumps after it sending them both tumbling to the ground. >The glow on the guard’s horn sputters and fades away. >The thin strap at the front of the wagon creaks under pressure and snaps before the remaining unicorns could re-adjust their restraining spells. >The guard on the ground rolls away and tries to drag Serenity along with her but fear has frozen her in place. >You lunge at Serenity shoving her out of the way as the first of the pilings hits your hindquarters. >... >Somepony is shouting. >*sniff* >’Why am I lying down?’ >*sniff* “Hmmm, love the tasty smell of fresh cut grass.”
