mk "Good to hear. Hey, I was thinking, since you're new you probably haven't had a chance to see the town, right?"

"The question catches me off guard. Honestly, I hadn't even given it any thought yet."

hi "Not yet, no. I was thinking of going this weekend."

mk "Why don't I show you the important places? Right now, I mean."

"Before I can question the surprising directness of her offer, she quickly makes a small nod towards the student council and gives me a mischievous look."

"Ah… if I want any chance of getting out of here alive, this is it."

hi "That would be great, thanks!"

#Miki grins

"Miki quickly grabs hold of my arm and slips out of the classroom with me in tow, leaving Shizune and Misha behind."

#Switch to hallway.

"As soon as we've cleared into the hallway, I stop and face Miki."

hi "Thanks for getting me out of there in one piece."

mk "Don't mention it, I know how pushy those two can be. That stuff about showing you around wasn't just an excuse, though. Do you still want to go?"

#Sound of Emi's prosthetics coming closer.

"Before I can respond, I hear Emi come running up from behind us."

"She looks like she has herself worked up over something, her face beaming with excitement."

emi "Hisao, I had a great idea after our lunch together!"

emi "We should get started on a diet and exercise plan for you! Doesn't that sound fun?"

hi "Uhh… actually, I was about to head out into town with Miki."

#Disappointed Emi

"I don't like seeing Emi disappointed, but fortunately she shrugs it off pretty quickly."

emi "That's fine, we can always go over it tomorrow morning after our run."

emi "We are running tomorrow, right? You promised you wouldn't oversleep again!"

mk "You know, not everybody likes getting up that early just to go running. Besides, he did just fine when I ran with him this morning."

"The look Emi gives me is telling. Clearly she doesn't like that I hadn't mentioned that little detail yet."

emi "You went running with her instead? Why? And why didn't you tell me before?"

"Even Miki looks interested in hearing my reply now. Unlike Emi, she looks bemused, as if watching a show put on just for her."

hi "Well… I did get to the track late. When I got there, Miki was doing her routine, so I ended up running with her instead. But the important thing is I went running, right?"

"A sigh of relief escapes the girl's lips as she realizes I didn't intentionally run with Miki instead."

mk "That leaves one question, though: Who are you running with tomorrow?"

"As she says it, I see that mischievous smile of hers slowly creep back onto her face."

"Is… is she saying this for fun? I haven't really thought about running with Miki outside of this morning, but now it looks like she has other plans."

emi "He's running with me, of course! I'm the one who got him started, and Hisao said he only ran with you because he was late!"

mk "Oh? You should let him answer for himself, then, since he seems perfectly able to make the decision on his own."

emi "That doesn't really matter. On top of everything else, I'm the faster runner, so it's obvious that he'd stick with me!"

mk "Well then, I guess Hisao has no say in the matter at all, since he'd so obviously be graced by your presence."

"I'm amazed that the two of them cared about my answer this much. It seems like their rivalry extends far from just the track at this point."

hi "Would you mind filling me in on what just happened?"

mk "Hmm? I didn't like the way she seemed to think the outcome was set in stone, so I wanted to prove her wrong."

"Wait a minute. Did she use me just to get to Emi?"

hi "Don't mention it… but if I'd known you were just trying to spite her, I might've ended up choosing Emi instead."

mk "Who said that was the only reason?"

"It's hard to tell when she's joking or serious. I'm starting to get the feeling she acts this way on purpose."

emi "Yeah! Besides, I'd rather you honestly tell me who you'd rather run with than worry about hurting Miki's feelings."

mk "There you go again, assuming everything will go your way!"

emi "I don't! But it's no different from assuming the sky is blue or that I'll always beat you in a race, for that matter!"

"The atmosphere is really getting hostile. I need to break this up fast, but I can't help but feel like I've just spurred them on."
