Basically I was going to write this to where Twilight discovered humans ancient history or some shit like Celestia had told her about it, and how humans had a mad lust for magic and power and she killed them all off or some shit, so Twilight didn't want anon to do / learn anything magic related. Anon would have felt betrayed after this was revealed to him, and he would have shut twilight completely out of his life, and try to discover his human 'heritage' >You walk up the steps to the crystal castle's entrance. You quickly knock, then shove your hands back into your coat’s pockets. >A minute passes, and you become impatient. "Oh, right.” >You ring the doorbell. >Half a minute later you're greeted with a particular purple pony’s smile. >”Good to see you, Anon.” Her expression shifts as she notices your own. >Way to play it cool, jackass. >“...Is there something you’re wanting to talk about?” >You look to the side, rubbing the back of your neck. “Yes, actually. You see…” >”Well, please come on in.” >You follow her inside, and are immediately met with warmth that's seemingly radiating from the walls. >Probably has to do with the castle's own magic. >You're led into a pretty comfy room with several intricate furnishings and other less noteworthy stuff. >With the heat getting to you, you slip off your coat, then take a seat in a recliner across from Twilight. >”So, what’s up?” “I was just thinking...I’ve been here in Ponyville for a while, haven’t really gotten around, done anything.” >You hesitate a moment. “Could I come along on an adventure sometime?” >An awkward silence settles the air between you two as she finds a response. >You can only muster a nervous smile. >”You know I wouldn’t want you to get hurt. You also know my friends and I’s adventures many times can end up being very dangerous…So what if something bad were to happen, and we couldn’t protect you?” “Well, I--” >“What could you defend yourself with?” >So THAT’S where it comes to, then. “Heh--another question. So why couldn’t I just get some magic of my own? >”We’ve been through this already.” “But can’t it do anything?” >She takes a deep breath. ”I know what this is about...look.” >She rests a hoof on your shoulder, and gives you the best reassuring smile she can. >”You don’t need magic to live a happy life. You already have a lot for yourself! You have your own home… uh,” she pauses. >”You have friends who will be there for you. What else is there to ask for?” >What a waste of time. “You know what, you’re right, but I gotta get going. Thanks for the talk.” >You both stand, and she hugs you. >”Well, I hope to see you soon, then. Just glad I could help.” >For doing mostly nothing since your arrival, you only wanted to do something cool, something exciting. >So, like an adventure and it’s not like all adventures are dangerous. >But apparently either way she’d just consider you a liability. Which would also mean she doesn’t see you as an equal. >You'll give it to her, she'd be right, being the goddamned Princess of Friendship. >Well, so what that you’re deemed too weak to hang by the ONE pony you’d consider a friend. >You know damn well you'd be able to manage yourself with the right weapon if shit hit the fan. >Maybe you'll get a sword, practice with it a little, and then go out on your own adventure. >...but then, of course, easily get yourself killed because even the rabbits have their own magic. >But such is life, and you’re going to have to deal with it. >Well, your home now. >Ponies don’t oftentimes come out here. >You’ve been staying in a fairly small cabin located not far, but a fair distance out of town. It’s on the other side of the river that separates Ponyville from the Everfree. >When you first enter your house, you’ll find the the kitchen and bathroom to the left. To the right, there's just your sofa. The fireplace is in the center of the cabin, and you have some wood stacked along the wall a safe distance from it. >It’s certainly not too shabby of a living arrangement; Something you can definitely give Twilight credit for. >Though you'd bet that getting the house was a simple matter of asking nicely, for her being royalty and all. >Well, she also stocked the place with plenty of food, but is all dry or canned because you don’t have a fridge. >You slip off your coat when you’re actually inside, and cold air bites at your skin. “Goddammit.” >You hang up your coat, then use a stick to rake around the remaining embers. Add some tinder until it gets going real hot, then you throw some wood in. >With literally nothing else better to do, you just wrap up in a blanket and lay in bed. >You just haven’t gotten out much, partially due to the cold. >Until today, you’d haven’t seen Twilight for a couple weeks. Surprised that she didn’t by to check up on you, being the way she is. >Life here is no worse than it was ever. >But at least here you’re one of a kind, which also means in a way, your special. Being the ‘only being without some form of magic in all of Equestria’ type of special. >But special. >A few days of nothing have passed, and it seems much colder than before. >You also woke up this morning and used up the rest of the firewood, which means it is time to get some more. >Before that, you had your usual breakfast: canned vegetables and homemade pancakes that are hard as a rock because they’re made from nothing but flour, water, and sugar. You drown them in syrup just to be edible. >You put on your gloves and coat, grab your axe, and head out. You toss the axe into your shitty wheelbarrow and push her along. >No doubt that it’s cold enough for snow, which means you’re going to need to get plenty of wood and keep what you can inside. >The forest looks as creepy as ever. >You’d already fallen all of the good wood and burned it up, which wasn’t very much. >Tree cannot be too wide, and preferably be dead. >Seems you’ve nabbed all of the dry wood, though. >Maybe you’ll just go a little further into the forest. >Twilight said not to go too far, for the forest can be quite dangerous. >But hell, they live right next to it. >She just thinks you’re weak. >If she really cared and if you die, it’s her fault for letting you live out here. >Not long, and everything becomes a considerable amount darker as the trees and shrubs become more dense. >These brambles fucking suck. >It all makes moving this wheelbarrow a bitch. >You find a small enough tree that looks like it was struck by lightning a while ago. >Very dead and dry. It’s perfect. >Takes no time to fall. Not as quick to chop up, which tires you considerably. >You can manage only so much of it in the wheelbarrow at a time, so it’ll be several trips to get it all back. >And the extra weight isn’t helping the fact that it’s already difficult to move through here. >Lucky for you, you find a bit of a clearing and push through it for awhile. >Just then you spot something glowing green ahead through the forest’s mist. >The fuck might that be? >Are you about to regret disobeying Twilight? >You keep still, and it doesn’t move after a minute. >You slowly approach it, and it becomes more obvious what it is as you get closer. >It’s just a creepy plant. >That you’re totally taking with you. >It has four long, serrated leaves, each glowing a dark shade of green. >Good thing you’re wearing gloves, this could be hella poisonous. >You only manage to pull up it and part of the stem, and perhaps because of it their glow fades. >Oh well, it looked pretty cool. >You’ll still keep it. >You go back for the wheelbarrow and soon make it back to the cabin. >Inside, you stack the wood around the wall, then pull out the plant to lay it on the table. >A couple trips back into the forest and you’ve retrieved all the wood. It’s still not enough. >After a small break you’ll just chop down some small, greener trees that there’s plenty of. >Use the dry wood to start the fire, use the green wood to keep it going. But eventually you’ll run out of dry and have to go look for some again, because it’s near impossible to start a fire with unseasoned wood. >God damn, you’d wish you’ve chosen to live in town instead. >Maybe tomorrow you’ll go ask purple about that plant, at least as something to do. // The shit after here isnt meshing well with above “Not home?” >”Yeah, her and Starlight were called by the map thing earlier. I guess that later I can always let her know you came by or something.” >Fuck, there goes the only thing you had planned for the day. “Erm, yeah. I guess. C’ya Spike.” >”Later.” >You turn around and stop him from closing the door. “Actually, I was just wanting to figure out what this plant is.” >You present it to him. “Any idea, by chance?” >He takes a step closer and analyzes it. >“Uh, can’t say I do. What’s so special about it?” “It was glowing dark green before I pulled it up, so I'm just curious.” >He scratches his chin. “Yeah, I don’t think normal plants do that.” He shrugs. “No idea.” >You return it to your coat's pocket. >”Buuuut I bet there’s a book that could tell us what it is.” >He points his thumb behind him. ”Wanna check her library?” “Great idea.” >You had no idea it would be this hard to find a damn book. >You search the shelves in each logical category it might be found in but none have seemed to hold anything relevant. >“Wait, you think it would be found in the ‘Plant’s and Wildlife’ section over here?” “That’d be my first guess.” >And just seconds of searching there, you think you’ve found a book.. >You pull it out, and scan through the index. >Plants by region...Everfree forest. >Bingo. >You both sit down at one of the tables and look through that section. >”There, I think that’s it...It says ‘it’s natural occurrence in the wild is rare’. Neat.” >And that’s it, sure enough. You pull it out again, and it looks just like in the picture. >So it’s not poisonous. >And, it’s very desirable for its use in alchemy… >Wait. >How have you not thought of this before? >You might not have magic, but this sure as hell could be the next best thing. >“Well, I’m going to go do what teenage dragons do my age when no one is around. Going to go read some comic books. If you need me just call, my room isn’t very far from here.” ”Wait, you think Twilight would mind if I borrowed a few books from her?” >”Eh, doubt it. You’re her friend, right? Just bring them back and put them in the right place. It’ll be cool.” >So that’s what you did. >You’ll admit, that bit of interaction with Spike was actually kind of refreshing. Maybe if you weren’t such a turbo neckbearded autist you’d stand to have some friends. >With the books in hand, you tread down the road towards home. >Sometime along the way, you catch someone staring at you. >Even when you make it obvious that you caught him, he continues to do so. >You’d give him the finger, but that’s meaningless to their kind. “Hey, wanna fuck off and mind your own business?” >He scrambles away, and now you find even more eyes on you. “God damn, fuck all of you.” >One mare gasps, obviously you’d spoken loud enough. >You just keep walking. >You shouldn’t have snapped like that, no doubt rumors are already spread about you. >Probably something like ‘Hey, you hear about the angry monkey-man who lives right outside of the Everfree, and occasionally visits Twilight’s castle?‘ >’Yeah, what business would he have with the princess? Guys a freak.’ >But you could care less at this point. >You lay the three books down, then stoke the fire. >You randomly choose one of the books to start reading. >And you spend hours doing so, and actually finish it. Of course you might have skipped a few things. >You never imagined how extensive alchemy is...it has so much potential. >You’re going to need the tools, though. And the ingredients. >Just imagine how cool it would be to make one of them. >A certain mare might even be willing to help you with that, but you have no idea when she’ll be back. >Oh, and you’ll read up on the subject and impress her with what you already know. >A full two days have passed, and you’ve just about learned all you could from those books. >Taken some notes, wrote down some recipes. >You returned them yesterday. >It also snowed about a centimeter last night as well. Your guess is it’s about to get really fucking cold. >Anyway, you’re hoping Twilight will be back today. >You fill up a bucket with soap and water, then strip from and half-ass wash your clothes and hang them in front of the fireplace to dry. >Sometime after, you take a short shower because of course there’s no hot water heater. Whoever owned the place beforehand must not have liked comfortable showers. >You’d wish you lived someplace in town. >You dry yourself with a towel and slip on your still wet clothes, figuring your bodyheat will do the rest of the job. >You often wonder how she must feel about you. >You let out a long sigh. >Why do you think of her so much? >Starlight and Twilight have returned. >You ask about her trip, which she tells you all about. >The purple mare sits at her seat matching her cutie mark at the table, and you sit at one adjacent to it. >No idea why she’d waste her time helping random ponies with their friendships, that’s something that should work out on its own. >You still think it’s pretty retarded, but what do you know. >Okay...Let’s ease into this. “So...Kinda curious about something. Are potions like medicine?” >”Hmm, well, not all medicines are potions, not all potions are medicine.” “What are all the uses potions have?” >“Well, apart from just being able to heal, they could give you temporary attributes, or like a boost of strength or stamina. Some could change the way you look entirely, or maybe just the color of your hair. There’s even a potion that will let you see into the past.” “Wow, that’s really intriguing. Sooo...How hard would you say it would be to learn how to do?” >Her ear twitches. >”Actually, alchemy is very dangerous especially if you have no idea what you're doing. It’s also not something one can just ‘learn’. It takes time and expertise in the field.” >Something’s off about her tone...Wait, why would that bother her? >It’s because it’s related to magic, isn’t it. She always seems to act that way when you try to ask her about magic. >Maybe it’s because she thinks you're obsessed with it or something, and it annoys her that you’ll ask something about it all the time. >Might not be a good idea to tell her you already borrowed a few of her books about it. >But Spike will probably say something, and she’ll piece the two things together. Whatever. “I guess you’re right...sounds way too complicated anyway. Well, there’s something I’d like to talk about. Few things really…” >You end up explaining all of the things that have been troubling you // ANON DOES POTION STUFF >You plop down onto the couch and toss the two books you were carrying aside. >Equestrian history and just some novel you’d never read. >You slip the other two books you were hiding from under your shirt. >The first is a fairly large book that’s about magic, magical trinkets, and the like. >This other one is more relevant to your new hobby. >You stack all of the books next to your bed, and go to the table in the corner of the room. You gently lift the cover to not knock over anything. >Surprisingly enough, you could get ahold of these fairly easy. >You pick up the small vial containing your most recent experiment and shake it some. >Your very first potion. >You pull of the cork and give it a whiff, causing your nostrils to burn a little. >Don’t be a pussy. >You’ll never know if you don’t try. >Fine, you’ll do it. >Just a sip. >You press the vial to your lips and let the cool liquid flow out onto your tongue. >Don’t even really taste anything at all. >You resist the urge to spit it out and allow more to flow into your mouth. >You swallow maybe about an ounces worth and end up spitting out the rest. >After a few moments, you realize you don’t feel anything at all. >Literally. >You panic as your entire body turns numb. >You really messed up big time. >Reckless. Twilight would no doubt berate you for your stupidity. >Well, your muscles still work. Heart's still beating. >Good news, doesn’t look like you’re dying. >You try lifting up your sofa and find it to be no easier than expected. >You look through your notes and try to figure out where you went wrong. >Perhaps you misidentified a particular ingredient? >It's not a strength potion...Or maybe you were suppose to drink all of it. >Suddenly, your body starts to tingle uncomfortably as if your foot fell asleep, then to your relief, all feeling returns. >You’re going to have to do some more studying. // extra lines? >A unicorn or earth pony could do twice the job you could for the few you're eligible for. >A very subtle change, you still cannot quite put your finger on it. >But she’s always treated you well.
